Default Painting cowl / gas tank

We are ready to start having the finish painting done and have a question about the assembly sequence of the gas tank and cowl. Should the gas tank, welting and windshield trim be assembled to the cowl before painting so the welt gets painted at the same time.

I would recommend painting the dash face and under side of the tank while out. Then install tank and welt. Paint exterior with dash area masked off.

Although not "correct" as per the Judging Standards, I think the welting looks better in it's natural black. Also, the tank is easier pin striped on the bench.

We painted all three separate. Then we assembled the cowl and tank. Once complete and ready to install we clipped the welting on and slowly worked it all together into the front of the body. Take your time and have friends help

I should have stated that we are working on a 1930 68B Cabriolet which is considerably different than the one in the photo.
Thanks for the information.

Ford painted the body as assembled except for winshield. The welting around the tank is painted body color. It breaks the lines of the color if left black. I suppose this would not matter on a black car. It depends on the look you want, and if being correct is important to you.

ITDANN:

Beautiful work! Would love to see the finished project. What type of paint did you use. Base coat clear coat, urethane, acrylic enamel?

The tank, cowl and beading was painted together. I like to paint everything in pieces and then put it together. It looks much nicer when completed. Plus I add a little flex agent to the paint to paint the bead, then it won't crack when you install it.
My thoughts.
