Recommendations for new 50 8ba upgrade carb to replace the original Holly
Any suggestions from the group for a newer style single barrel carburetor replacement for my 50 8ba?

Why would you want to downgrade to a single barrel carburetor ?

Re: Recommendations for new 50 8ba upgrade carb to replace the original Holly
First of all, we have already established the these carburetors are two barrel units with two separate throttle bores, each with it's own butterfly. There is only one choke opening with one choke butterfly which may have given you the impression that it is a single barrel, but it most assuredly is not.
Now that that is settled, while the Ford/Holley when operating correctly is a fine carburetor, there are a few updates that can be made. There is the Holley 2100/2110 series that, while still Holley 94's have slightly larger venturi's and will flow more than a stock unit and will bolt on to a stock manifold. Other than that, you can move up to an intake manifold from a '49-53 Mercury that has a slightly larger 4 bolt base that will allow the use of various Holley or "small base" Rochester 2G's. These will provide a modest increase in performance. The Holley carburetors mentioned here will function properly with e the stock "Load-a-Matic" distributor, but the Rochester's or other brands will not, and will require a distributor change. After that, it's on to after market manifolds and multiple 2 barrel carburetors or 4 BBL cartburetors, but that's beyond the scope of your question. Last edited by tubman; 03-05-2021 at 09:20 PM. |

If you're leaving the engine stock, keep the OEM carb. This is for sale if interested.

Quote:
I went the Rochester 2G route, with a Merc manifold, and use a GM-style MSD distributor. The 2G's are a huge improvement in reliability over the 94's, the power valve is not prone to trouble, and my carb hasn't leaked a drop in 5 years. A 2G will flow about 30-50% more than a 94, depending on model.
