Default Offset Hose Adapter

Good day.

I am new to the forum and this is my first post.

I need an offset hose adapter and located one at Honest Charlie’s. The fellow I spoke with there; Johnny, referred me to this forum in the hope of getting a couple questions answered that he was unable to.

So here are my questions.

1. Your opinion of the construction; does it appear to be a part that will last?
2. I need to find out if the design measurably reduces the flow?

Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you folks.

Hi Floyd and thank you.

This particular project is a 64 Chevy PU with a small block Chevy however, the offset adapter was designed for use with flatheads hence my reason for posting here. This was recommended by Johnny at Honest Charlie’s.I will include a picture of the offset adapter hoping that you and other members have used and are familiar with it.

I tried to upload only a picture but could not see how so here is the link; if inappropriate to post the link let me know and I will promptly remove it.

Thank you again,

Yes; that is what I am looking at. Have you used it or know of someone that has?

They work great on a flathead. Not sure how much flow it would decrease, but if you think how small the hole is when the thermoststat is open I personally don't think it would decrease it that much.

Thank you

Great point as I was considering the potential differential flow at the offset hose adapter not taking into consideration the flow limiter being the thermostat.

I will purchase them based on your personal experience.

Thank you again.

Takes care,

Not to be argumentative, but while two of them may flow enough for a 239 ci flathead, one may not be enough for a 350 ci SBC.

Good point, Denny, but wonder why he said he would purchase 'them' instead of one?

No argument to ensure but rather your input is "greatly" appreciated.

I discussed this very issue when chatting with Johnny at Honest Charlie's and he did not know hence he encouraged me to login and initiate a conversation here.

So as to continue the conversation; using the previous comment being that the thermostat is a limiter would you agree that the water can not flow at a rate greater than allowed through the thermostat?

I like the look of the item and it would mechanically resolve the issue at hand however, to resolve one issue only to create another is not my goal.

Your continued input as well as those from the other forum members is truly appreciated.

Thank you,

Shadowman

Because Johnny @ Honest Charlie's said that they will not sell only one as this is all that I need; one for the lower radiator hose.

When I look at a typical small block Chevy thermostat it appears that even when fully opened that the net restriction/reduce flow is significant.

Having shared this; the offset adapter is 1 3/4" on both ends however, I can't ascertain the space open within the middle.

Thank you all again.

Could you not move the radiator forward to the holes in the frame for the 6 cylinder engine and gain necessary room for hoses?

Don't get me wrong; I personally think that it would work. I was just pointing out the one vs. two factor. Look at it this way : If it works, you would have an extra or one to sell to another Chevy guy. If it doesn't you have a pair to sell to a flathead guy.

Are we discussing a sbc on the barn? Maybe i'm wrong....

Buy the pair and sell one. or make one. Life is short open that wallet. I does look restrictive, but... then make one.

Or go to autozone and ask to look at the hoses in back (they don't care most times) and cut one up. You'd be surprised what you might find.

Alternative would be to take the radiator to a shop and maybe have them braze in another inlet/outlet.

Lotsa SBC experience on the HAMB--maybe someone over there has tried that hose adapter.

Sorry to get under your skin; I was simply asking for help “because” Johnny at Honest Charlie’s said the register and post within this specific area as folks here could and would help.

Let me be very clear; it is not a money issue and furthermore; if you had asked the same question I would either; answer as able, watch the thread because I found it interesting, or moved on. I would “never” speak down to you.

For those that have helped; thank you.
