We sell the leather seals. They come in slightly oversized in diameter. When I tried to see about having them stamped to the exact correct diameter, they quoted me several thousand dollars for the correct die, and of course, they would hold the die in their possession for whenever I needed more done. I couldn’t justify the extra costs involved to do this, so we elected to have them stamped at a standard diameter that is very close. You can use them as-is, or take a pair of sharp scissors and trim them to the diameter of the steel washer......and that is the rest of the story.

David, to my knowledge they are not stamped with any taper.

Man, that's an expensive die set up. I've made my own leather and rubber punching tools from pipe. A person sometimes needs to cut the pipe or even solid bar stock in a lathe to get the size they need but that was no problem for my little Clausing 12-inch.

I don't know of a way to die cut a taper. It would likely have to be cut with a special rotary cutting tool but it would have to be a special set up for leather.

I make all kinds of round gaskets and washers in rubber, leather, and various types of plastic, as needed. Make inexpensive dies from metal tubing, pipe, and even worn out hole saws, etc., using the hydraulic presses in my garage shop to stamp them out. We're not talking Hi-Tech or large quantities here, just what I and some of my friends need.
