1939 U Joint lubrication

I am curious about the best way to provide lubricant for the universal joint on my 39. I have read quite a bit on the differing opinions on which product to use. It ranges from corn head grease to 140 wt. to a home brew. I am leaning towards the home brew. I have mixed grease and 80wt to a consistency like mustard. Is it easiest to add the dosage through the speedo cable hole? or is there a better method. Was thinking of putting this is a squeeze bottle about 4 or 5 oz

You may as well just put it in the transmission case because that is where it will end up.Use corn head grease and apply to the fitting with grease gun.

I use a 50/50 mixture of sythetic grease and sythetic 85-140 doping, consistency of mustard, put this mixture into grease cartridge and use an air operated grease gun to fill the cavity thru the grease fitting-use the whole tube, been doing this for years and have changed out clutch and found plenty of this mixture left in the u-joint housing--also works great in the steering box

I noticed a product from Heritage Machine & Motor Oils in the Restoration Supply catalog. It is described as Green Velvet #2 Soda Grease, PB&J220SO, #2 Soda Soap. This was pretty much what FoMoCo would mix with gear lube back in the day to make a semi fluid grease/oil for the U-joint service. Any of the semi fluid thixotropic greases like John Deere corn head grease will do in a pinch.

Rotorwrench, in my opinion has offered the best opinion thus far. he is quite accurate in his advice in regard to the soda soap grease. Still, the JD Cornhead grease has proven VERY effective in bearings like the Ford U-joint as well as the Ford U-joint itself.
