Default Horn Problem

I replaced my 6-volt battery today after the old Die Hard finally died after 7 years. When I took the coupe out for a test run to make sure everything was working properly, all of a sudden, my horn started blowing erratically. If I went over a bump or turned a corner, the horn would keep blowing and I had to keep tapping the horn button or turn the light switch to make it stop.

Has anyone had this problem, or can give me a tip on where to start looking??

Thanks,

Doug L.

your light switch bulb might have come loose from the lower end of the steering column. Or, if its a repro, the center horn contact can lean over and ground against the center of the brass switch plate because the springs tend to lean to one side. In the latter case, sleeve the contact and spring with some un heated shrink tubing. It can help insulate it from contact with the side of the switch. Or perhaps the spring in the button broke and the button is making contact. Odd that it happens after a battery change though.

Doug,
Listen closely, maybe the horn is playing "Taps" for the old veteran "Die Hard" battery? Bill W.
