Nine Inch Ford rear end in 1936 Ford
I have a 9" Ford Bronco Rear in my 1936 Ford convertible.
The Pinion angle is no problem. Does anyone have any good ideas how to set the rear evenly on the springs? I have to position the spring perches (which are new and not welded to the rear housing) evenly apart and evenly from the backing plates and weld them in place. Thanks ART |

Might want to post this on the HAMB, since it is more hot rod oriented. Some of us are on both, but some not so much. Get on the HAMB and do search for 9" in a 36.

Re: Nine Inch Ford rear end in 1936 Ford
I have a Bronco, rear in my 40, I just measured from one perch to the other on my 40 rear and then measured from the Bronco backing plate and even it out on both sides and welded the perches on. I kind of wish I'd installed parell springs, I think it would ride better. Walt

I would recommend the parallel springs. There are a couple of manufacturers that provide bolt in kits. With this setup, you don't need radius rods or another means of keeping the rear in place.

Chassis Engineering:
http://www.chassisengineeringinc.com...rd-car-pickup/ Brizio Street Rods uses these. Once the mount is bolted to the frame, check that your wheel is centered in the fender as you want it. A couple of small welds on the brackets - just in case.

I ran a Bronco 9" and used the parallel spring setup in my '35 Slantback with a built flathead.......worked great and I had no ride issues.

Re: Nine Inch Ford rear end in 1936 Ford
I put a Broncho 9" rear end with parallel leaf springs into one of my 34 Fords back in 1980. It has a stock flathead and the ride is nice and smooth with no issues. Don't know about overkill. I just used what I had at the time. Had the car out yesterday, and it still drives nicely.

Go with the parallel leaf spring kit from Chassis Engineering. You will not be disappointed.

I have a 48 conv. with parallel leaf springs (Chassis Engineering kit) and a 8 inch and it rides great. Your springs/shocks will determine ride, not so much the rear.

Re: Nine Inch Ford rear end in 1936 Ford
As far as getting it centered. Put a piece of masking tape on the housing in the center. Measure the width from the backing plates and divide that in half and make a mark on the tape. Then measure off that to your springs. Make sure the springs are not twisted in or out. Double check your measurements from more then one spot like center to the springs inside and out and center to the outside of the frame rail. Tack the spring pads to the housing and check it all again. Then weld it up. Use common sense welding them on. Too much heat can cause it to warp

I've built dozens of 35/40 chassis with the CE rear spring setup and a 9 inch rear, never had a customer complaint.
