I have painted the steel ones. here is the large diamond


with the flash on showing my dirty radiator


small diamond painted steel


mercury lights are not great for photography.


also took some sandpaper to one side of the aluminum for that bright shine

I did that to my 30 coupe way back in 1959 when I was in hi-school. I took the grill shell to metal shop to cut out the extruded metal. I still remember my shop teacher saying "are you sure you want to do that to that nice A-bone shell?" I drilled four small holes in the shell for small bolts.

If you ever get a look at an original stone guard, the wires run diagonally, not straight up and down like the reproductions. Personally I think the original looks more attractive than the repro. Also, I personally don't care for stone guards, mostly because their attachment to the radiator shell tends to damage the shell eventually. But that is just my opinion.
