Remove Clutch Pedal Snap Ring
Need to replace the pedal bushings but that snap ring on the end of the pedal shaft is a bear. Regular snap ring pliers have no place to grab.
Searched the threads and do not want to go the cold chisel route. Anybody have a trick to get them off without destroying something? |

Re: Remove Clutch Pedal Snap Ring
You should be able to work one side off first with some screwdrivers, picks, and patience. Maybe look up and order a repo replacement first. depending on your patience or if it snaps.

Re: Remove Clutch Pedal Snap Ring
Use 2 small flat blade screw drivers. One to apply upward pressure to hold snap ring in place, the other to gently pry up and expand the snap ring. I think they are fairly easy to bend without breaking.

It's amazing, the huge number of "UNOBTANIUM" NOS parts that Fred (barnfind08) has laying-around in multiple buildings. Some of you guys like Kube for instance, should be stocking-up on some items like this. Fred has some really rare stuff. DD

Re: Remove Clutch Pedal Snap Ring
You know, I can't remember getting that thing off. But lying on my back in a great big hurry for my first test drive, I couldn't get it back on! Gave up and twisted wire around it. This is a good reminder to check it..........I got a car lift now!

Re: Remove Clutch Pedal Snap Ring
I should have known that YOU stay well-prepared in that which you do VERY WELL. I guess that my point here is that folks need to remain aware that Fred (barnfind08) really has a massive assortment of NOS Ford parts, some of which just ain't available anywhere else. When ya need a hard-to-find widgit, don't forget to contact Fred to see if he has a few. DD

Re: Remove Clutch Pedal Snap Ring
Ford fans, it can be done!
After an hour of sweat and busted knuckles from the snap ring refusal to sit still for the brute force approach, I figured a way to make little beast stay put. I drilled a 3/32" hole from the groove into the mounting shaft, at about the 1:00 position. Stuck a pick into the hole to block the snap ring from turning, then drove a filed down little screwdriver under the end of the snap ring. That got it out far enough that I could pull it off with a pair of pliers. Lord knows where it landed after it popped off. I hope I never see it again. When the pedal goes back on, I will use a suitable modern snap ring, or two. |
