Anti sieze thread compound is a very useful anti galling thread lubricant,it also works to keep distributor housings from rusting to the heads. It also works well on clevis pins, especially ones removed for maintenance, like the clutch linkage pin,a mixture of anti seize and engine oil makes a 'paintable' lubricant good for the wishbone ball..Its a good idea to use it on assemblies subject to weather as well,if a bolt and nut can rust neversieze it..takes a bit longer to assemble the job,but the next time you...or the next guy does it he will thank you.

Engines were stamped when they passed testing. The number on the engine was stamped on the frame when the engine was installed.

Read Steve Pluckers study on this process. http://www.plucks329s.org/studies/studies.htm

I reckon many A owners add 10 mph or more to the max speed their motor cars achieve. Mine won't hold a candle to speeds that are quoted. hope that explanation suffices. cheers, gary

Shew01, correction from cpf240 - Sorry for my error item 5, post 31. Correct is the frame was stamped to match the motor # at time of motor install.

Well, yes and no. The Model A did NOT have a VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) as such. Per the Instruction Book:

Quote:
The engine number is also the serial number of the car.
The engine number is analogous to the VIN in that it identifies a particular car. But it has a different format and Ford called it the "serial number."

I have learned that I will never find all the rattles and squeaks! My wife says to quit looking. "After all, it's 91 years old!"

I added "21)" to post #1 for rear wheel bearing grease seals. The ideas came from a couple of barners that guided me along.

Would you mind taking another look at "5)" in post #1? If it needs tweaked, please let me know.

There seems to be some disagreement about exact settings for the spark lever, the throttle lever, and the GAV. I added the following to the bottom of "7)" in post #1.

"Apparently, the settings for the spark lever, the throttle lever, and the GAV (Gas Adjustment Valve) vary quite a bit from car to car, and these settings appear to be an "art form," rather than an exact science. Folks tend make strong arguments for the settings that they have found to work for them."

I am open to re-wording if you can come up with something better.

Perfection.
It's a very precise machine, but not required to be as precise in most circumstance.

Didn't have access to the car. Just a book describing it.
2 things i didn't get 100% perfect when i did access the car was pushing the clutch peddle all the way down when trying to stop. 1.4 seconds later that habit stopped.
The other was learning how much advance was required at speed. Turns out the car was lenient than i thought.
