8BA in a 1940 Pickup
I have a 1940 Ford Pickup with no motor, and I have a spare 8BA.
What will be required to use the 8BA (with original 3 speed transmission)? Can the 8BA fan be used or do you have to switch to an electric fan? Any advice from those who have done this would be welcome. Thanx, Kirk

Re: 8BA in a 1940 Pickup
I’m in process on putting one in a 39.
Which is a little different. To the best of my knowledge if you’re using the original torque tube rear end- you’ll need a ford truck or mercury bell housing to adapt your 8ba to the earlier style trans. You’ll need a 40-48 style transmission assuming you have a column shifted truck. Truck water pumps for the front mounts, or merc pumps with spacers. Radiator inlet/outlet size is different but easy to overcome. Best of luck. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Re: 8BA in a 1940 Pickup
Basically you want the exterior of the 8BA dressed out like an F-1 engine: wide belt truck water pumps, matching crank pulley and generator, truck bell housing and 10" clutch. It will more-or-less bolt in at that point. You will have to determine if the F-1 fan can be hung low enough and have enough clearance to work for you, my memory is dad had a 40 pickup set up that way back in the 80s and it ran cool.

Oh. And a different flywheel, and a truck oil pan if I’m not mistaken.
