Re: 1938 trans
Those sound like either 1951 or later passenger car gears or 1951 F1 light duty three speed gears. They are usable as a set but you have to have all the right gears to work with it. Mac VanPelt's book lists what you would need. I don't have my copy on hand or I'd check myself.

Re: 1938 trans
Well I finally got my trans put together and I will need to have my driveshaft shortened about 3 in allowing for 1 in of slack on the tail shaft.I have a 2 piece driveshaft with a small carrier bearing and a slip joint at the rear end. What amount of slack do i need to have in the rear slip joint.

Re: 1938 trans
Well finally found the 91a shift fork installed it and now when I put it in 3rd gear it feels like its rubbing on the synchronizer. I'm turning it by hand and there is a drag on it.Looks like it is rubbing on the front face of the fork, what have I done wrong on this.

Re: 1938 trans
Is the synchronizer sleeve in the correct position? The groove should be positioned toward the rear. If reversed, it could cause such a problem. The 91A fork should fit in that groove easily with no interference so make certain it is the correct width. I've seen folks try to modify the older fork to work but it doesn't put the sleeve in the correct positions. Mac VanPelt has reproduction 91A type forks now.
