Default Petty Annoyance:

I placed my first order with Snyders and requested them to ship cheap as possible.
Was quoted $8 or $9 for shipping.

Sub Total: $34.45
Standard U.S. Shipping: $12.00 (order default shipping)
Grand Total: $46.45

Special Shipping Instruction: "Please ship or mail with lowest cost. Thanks, Al"
Upon receipt of the order the actual shipping was $13.56

I emailed them on 1/18, about it and never got a response.

This has never happened with any other model "A" supplier.

Just blowing off some petty steam.

UPS and USPS have both raised their rates. UPS did theirs raise affective January 2nd. USPS rates went up this last Monday. Chances are you were quoted before the rate increase and order shipped just after the inrease. Rod

Did you follow up with a telephone inquiry ? Did you ask for a message rad receipt on your email ? Do you know that they received the email ? Why not call and ask to speak to the owner and request an explanation ? My latest Snyder's catalogue shows $30 to 50 dollars ourchase at $ 13 dollars for shipping.

Funny how people will use this forum over and over to blast a vendor, but will not call the vendor to complain to the source of the problem.

Don't feel so bad. I just sold something on EBay and quoted a shipping price last week. The same package costs $6 more this week at the end of the auction. Geez, I took a bite out of that one.

just an idea but if you ship UPS to business address it is about 20 percent cheaper than shipping to a residential address. I have them come to my work. My employer does not mind

I responded back to them on their online area for comments.
Also waited a week befor them to respond.
Package was shipped before shipping increases.
If they don't care about our shipping preferences then don't ask.
I'm not going to waist time calling - just thought I'd share the annoyance.

I hate to pay shipping also but hey its cheaper then driving to get the parts and fortunately for me none of the major vendors are in NJ so right away I save 7% not paying sales tax plus its delivered to my door. I do try to plan out purchases and make one big one rather then a few small ones.

If it were me I would call and get an explanation. It is not worth having this eat away at you for less than 5 dollars. Remember they have a toll free telephone number.

Try the postal service I mailed a registered money order to a lad in the US for my 66 OMC Snow Cruiser parts back on December 14th. The delivery date was the 17th and he has yet to see it. The tracking number shows it leaving Canada and headed to the US. Nothing since it was loaded on the plane. An investagation is underway, the money order has not been cashed and somewhere between Canada Post and the USPS sits a registered letter. Yet, a 20 lb box shipped to Tom W was delivered within 4 days. Go Figure!!!

Saying "ship with lowest cost" is like saying you want it ASAP. (which really means -- "whenever you get around to it") Do your homework and be specific.

I generally specify "USPS Flat Rate Priority". Most of the time they do. If they don't, I complain, but it's still like talking to the wall. And it's not vendor specific, it's all of them.

When you live in Alaska, it's open season on shipping rates, no matter how they ship it!

Bert's charges you only the actual shipping cost. That seems like the most fair and predictable way to do it.

I use Snyder's alot, when you check out you have Shipping Options. I always check the box to use Priority Mail. They say it will cost $2 more, but never seen to charge it. And they use and charge you for Flat Rate Boxes, no inflated shipping charges. I receive orders from them usually in 2 or 3 Days, and the Mail arrives around 12 - 1 pm. UPS takes 5 days, Delivers at 6 - 7 PM, plus USPS still delivers on Sat. UPS NO.

Al I would call them, I have before and they Have Excellent Customer Service, if an Operator cant solve the Problem, Don III will, and I have spoke With Him before.

Send me your address I'll mail you the $4.56 (I've worked 6 mo in the last 4 years but I'll go without the senior coffee at mickyD's for a few days.
Was there a specific reason you honored Snyder's with your order??? Have had excellent service from Snyder's, Bratton's, A&L, Bert's, Tam's. And yes shipping is a concern but I usually start a list and when it gets to a point where I really need something I place the order. Shipping is just another part of it.
Sorry for the rant, but it's just 4.56.

He said he tried to contact them but got no reply. But it was an email and not a phone call.

What was the size of the package? USPS flat rate is great IF it fits in the box.
