Default heater

Hey Guys, I didn't have a heater motor for my 53 customline and found one yesterday. The question I have is, there are to braided wires coming out of the fire wall. The motor has two red one's and a short one that I figure is a ground. If I were to hook up the other two and they were backwards would that hurt the motor or would it just turn backwards? Thanks Bob

Two wires could be indication of a 2 speed motor.
Depends on the switching that exists. Doubt it will run backwards.

Actually, depending on the heater type, the motor was designed to reverse direction for the defrost setting compared to the heat setting. Look at the blower fan (the barrel shaped one) after hooking up the wires and you'll know quickly if it's correct.

The heater in my '53 also has 3 wires, one is ground and the others are for low and high speed. Don't ask me what the colours were as I had to recover min as the insulation was all but non-existent. I guessing that the short one will be ground and the other two will be for low and high, you should be able to connect power to these to confirm and polarity should not make a difference to rotation. I suggest using small clip leads so you can test before making a permanent connection.
