Show Us Your Avatar
Many times I have tried to get a better look at some of the Avatars posted here but can't. Now is the time to show it off.
Here is mine...

Tell us how you get the picture blown up. I don't know how to change the size when I post a photo. Byron.

Re: Show Us Your Avatar
On tour at the Greenwich Concours d'Elegance in 2011. Before we installed Bill Wzorek's shocks. You can see some body roll. I'm going about 30mph. Also notice the steering input effort, two hands pulling down. That's what you have to do with the '36 steering box. The replacement '37 box is much easier to steer. Also that top is history!

Re: Show Us Your Avatar
I set up an album on my profile page with my current and older avatars. It's about as easy as putting a thumbnail in a post. As I recall, you don't have to use a photo hosting site (such as PhotoBucket) to get the image into an album. Just upload it from your computer into the album.
PS: Just found out that you can access a picture from an album in another post, like this:

Re: Show Us Your Avatar
To show your picture larger than the 800 X 600 pixels that you can upload you need to save your picture to an online service. I use PhotoBucket: Then copy your picture from that website and paste it into your FordBarn post. Then it will show as big as the website you copied it from showed it. PhotoBucket limits width to about 1200 pixels but that's more than big enough to see.

Re: Show Us Your Avatar
296V. Is that engine in a car? If so how does it go? That engine intrigues me. I had a 296 back in the 50's. I had an Almquest cam, 3 94, Lincoln converted dist, I used 1/8LC pistons instead 3/16 pistons, the pistons popped up over the top, had to dome the heads, Had wicked compression. that engine was awsome in a 39 coupe. Re: Show Us Your Avatar
Bud, my avatar is a drawing (used in an ad in '39) of our '39 Lincoln Zephyr Convertible Club Coupe. The actual car is in the process of restoration and the body is partly in primer with the rest of it still covered in a 1948 Cadillac dark green color that was painted by Earl Schibe (spelling) on Long Island in 1958... Here's a photo of the "Leper car"...LOL

That is a sweet looking 46. I bought one of those tank door moldings and put it on my car 46 Sedan. What do you have for front hubcaps. I can see some sort of cone on the front end. Looks cool.

Re: Show Us Your Avatar
Here is the pickup when it came home. F150 rims, leaky brakes, F'ed up shocks, wrong steering and bottomed shocks. This one is documented a s a '41, but it's trimed as a '40. The only clue for '41 are the hood badges.
After getting rid of the F150 rims and most of the other stuff fixed. Actually doing some work for my daughters business at a car show. |

These '35's shown in my Avatar picture will probably look different every time you see them. I am always changing tires/wheels, add on accessories, etc. around to see what I like best

Re: Show Us Your Avatar
68Hillbilly, why don't you add that picture of your 40 as your actual Avatar. Go to the top of the page and click User CP. Then click on edit avatar. You can post a picture from your computer files or from a photo hosting website like Photobucket, Picture Trail, etc. You can always change it to some other picture later if you wish.

Re: Show Us Your Avatar
Here is my'39 Standard. My Grandfather restored this car in 1976. Nothing done to it since, other than the usual upkeep & Maintenance. I was able to show it this past summer @ the AACA Grand National in Tennessee & at the Early V8 show in Hiawassee..
The first two pictures are of him with the car around 1977....not too long after the restoration.. The latter ones are of it this past summer.. Last edited by rufus39; 01-21-2013 at 01:57 PM. |

Re: Show Us Your Avatar
Here is my 34 pickup. It was so rusty and rotted that I have to make a hot rod out of it. The only parts of the original I am using is the cab, hood and bed sides. And I had to patch all of those. Everything else is from another source. The photo makes it look much better than it was.

By golly Cecil, I completely forgot about that one . That shot was probably unintentionally hidden amongst my favorite pictures taken during the Blue Ridge Mountain Parkway Tour

My Uncle Tommy Lorbeer's AV8. Photographed in front of my dad's house in Riverside, CA in '39 or '40. Uncle Tommy was way ahead of his time. He actually had a movie camera in 1940 that he took out to Harper Dry Lake. You hot rod guys will get a kick out of this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z5ENn_hxv64

Re: Show Us Your Avatar
The locomotive is a class H1b Hudson type locomotive built by Montreal Locomotive Works in December 1930. It is the only surviving H1b Hudson and is one of only a handful of preserved and operating Canadian Pacific Railway steam locomotives in North America. The 2816 is actually a Hudson class 4-6-4 wheel arrangement, is not streamlined, and was originally a coal-burner but during its restoration was converted to an oil burner. In the 1930's it cost the Canadian Pacific Railway $116,555 to build, and it is 91-feet long. Its gross operating weight was 657,000 lbs., and it was good for 4,700 horsepower at 55 miles per hour, and these locomotives in the 1930's consistently operated at speeds of between 80 to 100 miles per hour. My grandfather was a Hog (Engineer) with the CPR in the 1930's, and the 2800 series locomotive was his all-time favorite unit to run, and as a young boy I was mesmerized by his railway stories and there isn’t a day that goes by when I don’t reminisce about all the great times that we had tegether. “Oh” I almost forgot my avatar also has my 1934 Ford Roadster in the photo I just thought they somehow just fit together….
Just an extra treat for those that love steam a clip of Canadian Pacific steam engine 2816 at Morants Curve in the Canadian Rockies west of Calgary, Alberta and a cold morning at Lake Louise, Alberta... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NFGVMKDflEw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Z8MIXXDPls Last edited by Steve Staysko; 01-15-2013 at 09:36 PM. |

Re: Show Us Your Avatar
Steve, your ’34 roadster stand proud besides old #2816….wow, does this photo hit a memory cell. Who amongst us does not love an old locomotive, we admired both the old cars and trains….I believe they sort of go together. By the way, my Grandfather worked on these builds in the Angus shops in Montreal….great memories, thanks for bringing this up, and your photo now belongs in my archives.

Re: Show Us Your Avatar
V8COOPMAN….Thanks for the nice compliment….however….perfection in reality it is not…it has its scars that time has so slowly inserted here and there. It’s an ole Hot Rod from the 50’s to early 60’s. Came out of hibernation a few years ago after being in storage in the mid 60’s….garage find, I guess. I have been working on it for a few years now, getting it back to its ‘Ole Glory’. The 59AB was bored out 1/8” and has the 4” Merc crank, 276 inch, Isky cam, Johnson lifters, Jahns Racing pistons ( as they were called ) Navarro heads and intake, two Stromberg 97’s and so on….all done so many years ago. Original tranny and 3.78 rear end. The paint is far from perfect, or as they say, nice from far, far from nice. This paint was done in the early 60’s in enamel, including enamel clear over the metallic blue…..I knew right away when fine sanding and hand buffing. Sanding clear enamel has a distinct odour which brought back memories, as I painted many a car back then and the lacquers were bad for long durations and prone to cracking. So, enamels came back for me. I had the intention of a full frame off restoration, but buddies here refuse for me to do it…”leave it the way it is”…is the word. With this, I am working on a lot of details, and keeping it true to its find. I am not the only one here, a lot of Ford Barners are doing the same, and encourage them to do so. Just thought everyone would like to know….Robert

He appears to be looking at what's been posted! So I adopted it as my avatar, it'll do for now. I use another one on the hamb, it was reworked from a vintage Blaupunkt poster. I cut out the blue spot and set in a racing slick. Last edited by Mart; 01-15-2013 at 04:23 PM. |

Ken, that sure is a good looking `40 pickup, one of my favorites. I sure have some I wish I had kept too. You sure do have a sweet looking `48. The paint looks like glass. Walt Dupont is one of the best. A HAMB'er picked up on my thread and has it going on that site. I posted my `37 Chevy Coupe on it. Imitation is the best form of flattery they say.

Re: Show Us Your Avatar
well it's been a while getting up to date on the big picture posting. This is the enlarged avatar photo, taken 5 days after emerging from my down the hill garage. It was taken at a car show and we received a "Best Truck" award. I have since added some pin striping. Byron.
I don't know why the picture does not show, in large format. B.

JM, #69 photo 7. You in a suit. Priceless!! Musta been one heck of a day! Photo 4, Barner's Bash Florida 2012. Photo #5 Lattimore Valley?
Brendan #64, #67, #68, I like your taste! Bonesy, your car is really hot looking. Envy on my face. Old Henry, the photo with the neon has me mesmerized! Detonator, awesome movie! Couldn't take my eyes off the screen. Really neat photo and good lookin car. That house don't look like that today I'll bet. Steve Staysko There are DC metro, and Amtrack/CSX rails right outside the building where I work. Sometimes the ground shakes. Nothin' like a train. 41Ford1, Chuck, Love the truck. You've done a lot to it and that makes it special. I'm a truck guy at heart and I will have one, yes I will. (Hugs to Karen.) Cecil, I'd steal that in a minute! Rusk, I agree, excellent use of lighting. Ken Crans, I saw Walt Dupont's shop and I'd buy an engine from him in a second. Byron Warwick, Hubba hubba! Really like the color match with the grill and wires! Last edited by VeryTangled; 01-18-2013 at 10:25 PM. |

Re: Show Us Your Avatar
This was purchased from a mailman in 1949 by my father and uncle. I remember as a lad of 10 going on a long trip to pick it up. We towed it home (without the track installed) about 150 miles. I had so many memories of it as a kid that I restored it several years ago. The pictures I am enclosing I took yesterday. MNFATS

Re: Show Us Your Avatar
MNFATS, had to put this one on my screen saver. Great vehicle and great family history of it. Thanks for sharing.

Re: Show Us Your Avatar
Thank you Walt, it's not back in the car yet. I'm doing some work on the frame and we hope within the next two weeks we will be putting it all back together again. The engine internally is stock, when I first got the car I was amazed at how well she ran. So, I decided to just pretty her up a little. The head is a super winfield, intake thomas and I'm going to try a wico mag in her. I should know what I have by April May. Thanks again for the compliment on the little banger.

Re: Show Us Your Avatar
I would love to post a couple of pictures of the front end, but the machine is at my cabin about 200 miles away. I won't be heading that way soon as we are also going to get several inches of white stuff this weekend according to the weatherman. I also need to share a photo or two showing it with the skis in place.

Re: Show Us Your Avatar
Here's my new one........the engine ready to go back into my '40 coupe. Thanks to everyone on the Barn for sharing their knowledge, which enabled me to complete this project. Two of Uncle Max's 97's to top it off, as well.
