It would be super if you would do a running post here or on the H.A.M.B. with pictures, from start to finish of this trip. That way we would feel like we are right there riding with you.

Another update - well, add one more to the "crowd" of old Fords going to Bonneville - seadog here on the 'Barn and the HAMB is also going to make the trip with us. He's a "real" photog (a lot more "real" than I am anyway!) so we should have some great pics, maybe some video - man, it's going to be like you're sitting next to us going out there and back (or at least I hope so).

I hate wishing my life away but I cannot wait to get started ....

Tom - Don't know your route but if you get in the vicinity if Indianapolis, you should plan a stop at the museum at the 500 track. Some pretty neat cars, etc. When you're at the museum, you're only 3-4 blocks away from Bubba's Speed Shop in beautiful downtown Speedway Indiana. I can't make the trip - unfortunately - but it sounds like a blast!

An update - I spoke w/Ken of the Rolling Bones and I will need to give him a number of folks by the end of the week. So, Seadog, if you are going, please let me know ASAP - I will have an email going out to you and Chuck today giving you what particulars I know of right now. I will also call my buddy from NY and see if he is in ...

If there's anyone else considering going, let me know - most of the entire trip going out is on Rt 80 and we are with the Bones through Wendover. Once leaving Wendover on Thurs, Aug 15th, we'll meander our way back hopefully visiting some 'Barners and HAMBrs along the way, Starbird's Museum, travel on Rt 66 a bit, Speedway museum (I hope we can put this one in logistically) - I'm open to suggestions from everyone and we look forward to meeting alot of you on the way back.

Once I know the stops on the way out w/da Bones, I'll post them and maybe some of you can hook up with us then....

Chuck and Tom - I've PM'd you the information ...

We're getting close boys, we're gettin' close!

Another update - the Rolling Bones do not make hotel reservations for Wendover and could not guarantee us a room/bed/floor to sleep on. So, I bit the bullet and made a reservation at the Resort Casino across the street from the Golden Nugget since there was nothing else available. Pretty posh but divide it by a minimum of the 3 of us, it's only $60/night a piece .... I wonder what they are going to say when there's laundry drying out the window ?!?!?! Probably they knew we were coming and have that figured out - the windows probably don't open!

Whoo hoo - plans are coming along!

Chuck (41Ford1) is back from his trip to Australia and we were just discussing our homeward bound trip. We know we would like to hit Daryl Startbird's Museum and Speedway and so we are making up a tentative route for that. We would love to stop and see Barner's and HAMBers alike so let us know where you are and maybe we can catch you on the return trek.

As soon as we know our trip out itnerary I will post it and hopefully catch up with some Barner/HAMBer folks then ....

We're getting close .....

As promised, here is the itinerary from the Bones - just the town and state we'll be stopping in on the way out:

Aug 2nd - Wheeling, WV - this is our first stop on our way to catch up with the tour the next day - any 'Barner or HAMBer in or near Wheeling we can hook up with this night?

Now, any Barners or HAMBers near the following stops we can meet up with would be great:

Aug 3 - Perrysburg, OH
Aug 4 - Altoona, IA
Aug 5 - North Platte, NE
Aug 6 - Rock Springs, WY
Aug 7 - Orem, UT
Aug 8th-15th - Wendover, UT

From Wendover we will be heading towards the following stops in more-or-less this order probably through Denver:

Speedway Museum
Starbird Museum
Parts Rt 66
Speedway, IN to hope fully stop by Bubba's shop and say hey

Once we know more specific stop info we'll post it - the Bones have not provided that yet.

It will be just Chuck and myself in the roadster - seadog unfortunately cannot make it. We'll alternate driving after each gas stop so there will be pictures and video from both of us. I intend to take my netbook to post as much/all of the info we gather each day.

We're getting closer .....

Cannot get Bonneville out of my system, been ther twice (2002-2006) and wish i could do it again. But at 77 years old the resources are not there.

My first trip was in 2003 alone in a small Ford van camper and was right next to where they did the training base for the A bomb.

Thank you for your kind words - I have heard many speak/write of Bonneville many times and almost reverently. We will try, even though we are a couple of newbies to Bonneville, and bring back as many memories for you as we can ....

I see you are from Warwick, RI - our son taught at the Prout School and his wife's family comes from the shore area - he'll be there with his family next week as a matter of fact. Beautiful country, to be sure ....

Tom, wishing you and Chuck a great ride across the USA to Bonneville and back. The Speedway Museum was awesome!! Speedy Bill's Flathead engine and speed equipment collection is unbelievable.

Tom, if you have the ol' Seadog as your wingman, you have nothing to worry about. You guys will have a blast. Wish I were going with you, but that will have to wait for another time.

OK - a fellow HAMBer suggested we try and make the HAMB Drags in Joplin, MO on Aug 17th. So, plans are made to hopefully get there early Friday evening to join in the fun ....

Should be a great opportunity to meet many HAMBers and hopefully some Barners as well .... check it our on the HAMB and maybe make plans to be there as well! We hope to see you there!

**** Updated 7/3 ****
Two Bonneville newbies are checking off another bucket list item - a run to Bonneville in my roadster. I have a fellow HAMBer/Fordbarner Chuck Lessard riding shotgun and we're going out with the Rolling Bones and coming back on our own, taking our time, making stops to museums and points of interest along the way.

We would like to meet up with as many HAMB and 'Barner folks as possible on this trip. To that end, here is the itinerary from the Bones with more specific info when we get it - we hope anyone in the vicinity of these stops can stop by and say hey:

Aug 2nd - Wheeling, WV - this is our first stop on our way to catch up with the tour the next day.
Aug 3rd - Econo lodge , 10667 Fremont pike , Perrysburg , OH. 43551 - 419-874-8771 - very close to Toledo, OH
Aug 4th - Altoona, IA
Aug 5th - North Platte, NE
Aug 6th - Rock Springs, WY
Aug 7th - Orem, UT
Aug 8-15th - Wendover, UT - Peppermill Casino, across from the Golden Nugget
Aug 16-17 - making tracks to Joplin, MO for the HAMB Drags
Plans are to make stops in more-or-less this order from Joplin:

Starbird Museum
Pete and Jakes?
Speedway Museum
Parts of Rt 66
Speedway, IN to hope fully stop by Bubba's shop and say hey

When we know more specific stop info I'll post it right here. We'll alternate driving after each gas stop so there will be pictures and video from both of us. I intend to take my netbook to post as much/all of the info we gather each day. I will post some here, but the majority of my posting will be done on the HAMB:

http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/s...d.php?t=811855

We are totally psyched about going and can't wait to get started - 30 days away ....
