Faces of fordbarn
There was an interesting thread started in the "A" Model Section, by Steve Plucker, called, "FACES OF FORDBARN".
Let's do that here, to put some faces with the names. I'll start with a picture of me and a new "friend" at BIKETOBERFEST 2008 and me in a more likely situation. MIKE Last edited by FL&WVMIKE; 01-29-2011 at 02:33 PM. |

Re: Faces of fordbarn
Mike I didn't see a picture of "you" just the girl and her two friends, one of which is either getting ready to come out and play or is returning to shelter after a quick peek around. Personally I don't know how you could look at the camera with all that peek a boo going on there.

Mike. I got nuttin', you have that picture there with the young lady, it makes you auto handsome, although honestly I can't say I really looked at you yet. Me nuttin', I have to start hangin' out in better places so I can get a picture like that, I need some auto handsome. I will say that you most likely will be lookin' at the side of my head as I goofily grin.

Hey Steve is that an old VAC? I used to work for a Case dealer back in the 70's....parts dept. Just loved those 30 series tractors, lugged like a steam engine.

Yes your right it's a 1952 CASE VAC-14 and when I bought it, it was completely worn-out. Farmers seem to use their equipment until its Dead from the axles up!

Enjoyed the photos of the two pussey cats. Mike, maybe I'll meet a "new friend" in Daytona next month too. Will be trolling with a 1930 Henderson or my buddy's '50 flatty.

Re: Faces of fordbarn
Hey Mike , Aint Main street a blast when the biker types are in town !!!! I kinda like the Bank and Blues myself but it all works . This is my newest addition - It was sleeping in that little garage since 1955 . The black widow webs were pretty thick but maybe that is why there weren't any mice issues ? Anyway we froze the spiders on the way home as we hit some -28 air temp in SD on the way home . The other pics were taken in my basement after MUCH cleaning and assy .

I've taken lots of ladies for a ride in my pickup, but can't top Mike and his friend. Enclosed are: sitting on the new frame in my garage; guiding it home, down the hill to my garage after paint; and I name you "Merlot", first day on the road. Byron.

Re: Faces of fordbarn
Steve, it`a a squeeze for sure, but it is a bit wider than it looks on the pic.....the worst was when I had a `40 coupe, now that was a fight to get in and out of.....I actually build `em in a garage out the back garden...that is almost 18" wider ha ha.....house was built in 1934 so cars were pretty small back then.

Re: Faces of fordbarn
Hey Guys
Here a photo of me taken in my garage a few years ago with my good friend Jack Calori. Jack held the 1947 SCTA Class "C" Roadster Record, for a short time he had the world's fastest flathead powered roadster (still street driven, a real hot rod). I idolized Jack, so one day when Jack stopped by my house and gave me a Lancers Club plaque and made me an honorary member of the "Worlds Fastest Roadster Club" it was one of the happiest days of my life. Jack had been invited to go to pebble Beach to be reunited with his famous '36 3-Window Custom. Pebble beach is a black tie event, He said the suit and tie thing is not for me, what should I wear. I told him a lot of the people dress in period costumes, why don't you toss on a white T-shirt and some Levi’s and roll up the cuffs and you will be just fine, and he agreed. One of my last memories of Jack is a phone call I got when he returned home from the Pebble Beach Concourse. Jack's '36 won the Pebble Beach Hot Rod Class, he was so proud and excited! I was so glad he had that experience before he passed away. He was the best of the best, a real perfectionist, the Henry Ford of the of the hot Rod world. Before he passed away, I used to call him all the time for advice on building my '40s era '32 Roadster project. He was my hero and I was lucky to call him my friend, I sure do miss him. When he gave me the Lancers plaque he gave me strict instructions on how to paint it. Here it is done, exactly as I was instructed, including the little painted goggles and exhaust tip, it is one of my most prized possessions. I know the Ford Barn is supposed to be for original cars but I think most of the members are closest hot rodders. I appreciate the original cars along with the vintage hot rods, I honestly don't know how you can separate the two of them. I was raised by a 50s hot rodder that later became a Model A restorer so I can relate to both worlds. I would be just as happy owning a restored early Ford as I would a 40s or 50s era hot rod. Great memory Jerry, thanks for sharing.
B'ville is one of my most favorite places in the US to visit and I try to get there every year during Speed Week in Aug. I just feel very close to the roots of hot rodding when I attend. Something got in my blood and I haven't been able to shake it....nor do I want to! lol

I did ask Jack about how that pipe setup worked. His theory was that the top pipe went to the center outlet which carried the exhaust from the two cylinders which share that center port. The bottom pipe was connected to the front and back ports so it was also carrying the exhaust from two cylinders. This was Jack's version of a tuned exhaust system. On the street he stuffed "Chore Girl" brand scrubbing pads (kind of like steel wool) into the pipes to quiet them down. He said they would stay in there until He got on it hard, then it would blow them right out. Here are some other photos of the engine so you can see how the pipes attached. Jerry |

Re: Faces of fordbarn
DJango,
That B-24 is my favorite CAF aircraft. Are you still active with CAF? What wing? I notice that you live in Illinois but you were not a member of the CAF Great Lakes Wing. Our wing lost the C-47 and my commission runs out 30 April 2011; I am not re-enlisting under these circumstances. Does your On-Line Screen Name Django have anything to do with the song by The Modern Jazz Quartet? TonyM. |

Re: Faces of fordbarn
Thanks Tony. I'm not an active member as the $200/yr is pretty steep for me. But I always loved the CAF since I was a kid, and so far no one has complained that I'm not a member in spite of my contributions. I designed the Cobra Den artwork and Tshirts for the CenTex Squadron, a Tshirt for the Yellow Rose Squadron and I'm working on nose art for the Dixie Wing for the P-51 currently. I'm also working on nose art that I'm painting on the Grissom Air Museum's C-47 in April, nose art and Tshirts for their B-17, as well as a new identity/logo for the Museum itself. You've probably seen some of that stuff pop up on WIX.
"Django" is from the gypsy jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt, a moniker that I picked up back in my heavy swing dancing days. It seemed to fit as he was one of my guitar heroes and it kinda stuck. I play guitar in a rockabilly band as well. I did an interview with Warbird Radio last week. Here's the link if anyone is interested. http://www.warbirdradio.com/shows/th...d-rescue-show/

Re: Faces of fordbarn
Here is a photo of "SHADETREE". He is driving his 1935 FORD Cabriolet. I took this photo, while driving through the mountains of West Virginia. We had just been to the "DOO WOP" Car Show in Charleston, W. Va., which was covered by Dennis Gage of the TV Show, "MY ANTIQUE CAR".
SHADETREE is wearing his 496th Air Force hat and is always looking for other 496th veterans. MIKE CLICK ON PHOTO TO ENLARGE - Twice Last edited by FL&WVMIKE; 02-13-2011 at 02:47 PM. |

No, not mine Vic. That Bantom is or was at the AACA museum in Hershey, Pa. They had a bunch of crazy hats and coats that you could wear when sitting in the car having a picture taken.

Didn't know I could work on my own car huh? The Munsters Koach is truly a Ford. It was made from 3 Model T's and has a 289 bored out to something like 429. George Barris built in in about 4 weeks. IMO, this is the coolest hot rod made from a Model T. |

This Thread was started by my friend Mike Burch who sadly passed away in October 2015. The picture above shows Mike with his Motor Bike. We were good friends as we both owned 1934 Ford V8 Phaetons. |

Re: Faces of fordbarn
In addition to his well known 1934 Ford V8 Phaeton, Mike also owned this cherry 1935 Ford Cabriolet. We started corresponding and exchanging pictures before the advent of emails. |

Re: Faces of fordbarn
My favorite Mikey pic.
Was not with him for this biketoberfest 08 pic at Dirty Harrys on Main st . He lived nearby. Cruising A1A beachside with him in his phaeton was always entertaining. The model A horn sure got used Scenery like this was obviously his favorite and there was plenty. Missya bud. RIP Last edited by David J; 07-05-2023 at 07:31 AM. Reason: added A1A as we were never on the sand |
