Re: prettiest years and ugliest years
Castiron, that is a photoshop (computer photo manipulation ) version of my car. Skirts were added on the computer. Nice way to play around with a lot of different colors and stances to visualize what you plan to do, before you spend the money to do so. And thanks castiron. Agree a slight chop at the most, but just another ford that doesnt need it to flow right and i prefer the 36 without a chop.
It's current state: Last edited by Tinker; 09-20-2013 at 07:21 PM. |

Re: prettiest years and ugliest years
The 35's have always been my favorite. Although I have 47's I would trade for a 35 in a heartbeat.

Re: prettiest years and ugliest years
Very few cars of any make improve on the styling in the second or third year of a model. Look at the clean lines of the 49-50, and the cluttered update for the 51. The major exception is the really clean update for 53, after the homely left-over look of the 52, but then 54 reverted to the cobbled up left-over look again. What were they thinking?
Look at the sweep of the 38 teardrop rear fenders. Then look at the stubby 39 rear fenders. Sorry, not an improvement. Sharp angled 37 grille and arrow straight hood doesn't go well with soft round body lines. Check the contour of the 38 heart shape grille and hood line, a nice compliment to the body lines. 33 swooping grille and unique matching louvers sadly lost on the 34. 41 grille improved the 40. I know, minority opinion. 46 upper grille bar with the red accent lines... The perfect touch. Those red accent lines have been described as a tribute to lives lost in WWII. 47-48 cleaned up very well without the accent.

Re: prettiest years and ugliest years
Alan ,what about the smooth lines of the 1939 Ford Deluxe, the rounded front fenders with the headlamps flowing within. The next year the sealed beams and the same fender style required the use of the humoungus pot metal adapter rings. I know the 40 has always seemed more popular than the 39 Deluxe but I sure do not know why.The 39 was form over function the 40 was function over form, another example the beautiful 39 rumble seat convertible top over the better funtioning but unstylish baby buggy carriage top heavy on the 40 convertibles rear seat.My opinion.

Re: prettiest years and ugliest years
For the most part, I agree with 37 Coupe, except for the Convertible Top on the '40 Ford Convertible Club Coupe. The '39 Ford Convertible Coupe was a two passenger, with the external "rumble seat". Not sure if the '35 Ford had a Convertible Club Coupe (CRS) but the '36, '37 & '38 Ford all offered a Convertible Club Coupe (top similar to the '40 Convertible Club Coupe). The '38 & '39 Lincoln Zephyr also had a Convertible Club Coupe with the large Convertible top with no quarter windows. I think the rarest Convertible of all would be the '38 Lincoln Zephyr Convertible Coupe (no rumble seat). The '40 - '48 Lincoln Continental also used the large convertible top with no quarter windows... in my opinion, the best looking Convertibles with the top up or down.

Re: prettiest years and ugliest years
The `36 thru `40 Lincoln 3 window coupes are in a class of their own. I didn't even consider these when I made my choices. You so rarely see them. The ultimate coupe!

Re: prettiest years and ugliest years
While my personal favorite is a '39 Deluxe Coupe, look at the picture of the '34 Phaeton on the cover of the book "The V8 Affair" by Ray Miller. Impossible to beat. It's as elegant as a Duesenburg! That's styling!!

Re: prettiest years and ugliest years
Yes
34 cabriolet 34 coupe 3w 36 coupe 3w 39 coupe de luxe ( because of the windshield, dash and the toploader gearbox over this items in the 40, if the interior matters) 40 coupe std ( I donīt like the deluxe grill) 39 coupe standard ( Sorry, baby, donīt feel bad, I love you anyway) No 40/ 41 and up Mercury coupes 41 and up Ford coupes ( Not ugly, but some steps back in style comparing with the early years, IMHO) |
