Re: WTF?? battery 30V ?
I haven't heard anything about ground. Is it + or -? If the alt was hooked up wrong even for a second, (plausible suspicion) diodes are probably toast. I believe there are probably many things wrong here.

Re: WTF?? battery 30V ?
Now that the car is running hot wired, the next thing to go dead will be the coil, or perhaps the fire extinguisher.
Note to Philip Swanson: Listen to Koates.

Re: WTF?? battery 30V ?
The digital meter I use most has a 20-volt setting then a 200 volt setting so there are different meters out there. A 12-volt system generates over 14-volts normally and a fully charged battery will read over the normal rated capacity after it's been charging for a while.
On my meter I have to use 200-volt setting since most of the aircraft I work with are 24-volt systems. They charge at 28 to 28.5 volts normally. |

If you go to Mac VanPelt web site you can see the wiring diagram for the 41 Ford. The Merc should be very close. The Ford ignition switch gets it's ignition battery supply from wires connected on the original voltage regulator.
