Default 1939 ford shocks how to tell right from left

I just got my shocks back from Bill and they look great, I did not photograph them on the car before removing. How do I tell which is the right or the left. I am thinking the fill plugs might orient towards the rear on the rears and towards the front on the fronts? Thanks Mike

it's kinda like how you tell which shoe goes on which foot. It just comes to you in a flash of bright light.

Mike, they will only line up with the front perch bolt one way. Similar thing in the rear... they won't line up with the axle housing perch but one way.

I had a brain fart, I guess moment of panic as I had not photographed them on the car. I for some reason was thinking the arm would rotate all the way around. I think i got it figured out, really kinda like putting your shoes on!! Bill did a great job on them. Kind of one of those posts that makes you feel like a ding bat. Merry Christmas and as always thanks for the help and advice.

Nope.
Filler on the side like tranny and diff. Being on the side allows an air pocket at the top for heat expansion. They do get hot! Ask me how I know.

The shock should move in one direction with much less force than the other direction (60-40), the easy moving direction is for the motion of compressing the suspension

ALAN:
When they say up it means above the center line of the shock,so it will function as you said making a air pocket.
If the plug is below the center line and it was filled to the point of leaking out you would be running the shock low on oil.

Basically we are all saying the same thing but in a different choice of words.

I guess the old adage could apply::: SAME THING ONLY DIFFERENT.
