Re: torque for master cylinder bolt
Propane torch is fine. Heat until red and either air cool or quench. I put mine on a wire for heating and air cooling.

Re: torque for master cylinder bolt
I got some washers from these guys when I did the brakes on my pickup. They worked fine.

Re: torque for master cylinder bolt
OK, I’m a believer. I annealed the copper washers with a small propane torch. I was rubbing the washers with a cloth to remove the black and they bent by just rubbing them. They must have been very soft. No more leaks! I suspect the washers today are not as soft as they made them back in the 50’s.
I’ll bleed the brakes and drive it in the road for the first time in 5 1/2 years. |

Re: torque for master cylinder bolt
Zuburg ,Leaks at the M/C rear
Inspect the matting face often the casting is not machined well a smooth face is necessary around the thread and Then you have a better chance for the washers to seal ,The one we had a continued problem with we removed the M/C and re faced the rough cast end to clean it up , over tightening can distort/crush the block, it should have a washer as has been said on the M/C side , Ted Last edited by FlatheadTed; 08-05-2021 at 03:23 AM. |

Re: torque for master cylinder bolt
Those sound good. They specifically state they are soft and already annealed. I doubt many of the other products sold are already annealed.
