That's a very simple solution to removing the ethanol. Non-ethanol gas is nearly a dollar a gallon more expensive. That's about $10 a tank on a model A

Yes, if you remove the crappy ethanol from 10% ethanol gasoline, that is only 30 to 35 cents you loose at $3.00 to $3.50 per gallon for gasohol if you remove just the 10% alcohol they put in it. Much cheaper, as ETAModel noted above with a little labor doing it. I do it for my chainsaw, weed-whip and model A's.

If you remove the ethanol from 87 octane pump gas you wind up with 76-78 octane. Not important in a Model A though,67 octane was good gas in the A days.Ethanol is not added to regular gas,it is added to gas refined to a lower octane.I've hauled some gas,I found that out at the tank farm years ago.

Keep in mind, in some locations ethanol is a hazardous chemical and needs to be disposed of property. Even in a diluted state.

I’d rather pay the extra $1 per gallon to directly fill my car. I don’t want to haul the gas cans to be filled, and then try to remove the ethanol from 10 gallons, I’d need more containers to transfer the fuel into, add water, drain the water mix, and then put the gas back into the gas can. Way too much hassle to save $10!

The end product would be tough on a chain saw that wants high octane in the mix! The model A will run on about anything that will burn.

There is a small equipment dealer about 10 miles from me that got rabid about ethanol. He preached the use of av gas to his customers. One brand of chainsaws that he sold starting burning pistons. After 2 or 3 warranty claims the rep came out to see what was going on,those saws were not known for piston problems. It was the av gas doing it.The saws had been engineered to run on 87,with a minimum of 85.They paid a couple of the claims, but told him he was on the hook for the rest.

My chainsaw asks for premium gas. I use non ethanol. it does run on regular but I use it lightly cleaning around the place. I don't know the octane of avgas.

Aviation gas is 100LL, LL stands for "Low lead". It still has lead. Aviation octane is measured differently. It's also dyed blue.

Just following the logic here, start with the highest octane gas available - and around here it's 92 buy has ethanol added to it - and you would end up with a non ethanol
fuel around 82 octane +/- . Since there is no straight non ethanol fuel available
for ux around here, it might be worth looking into?

Ethanol is grain alcohol, aka everclear. Around here pouring it on the ground is called alcohol abuse. LOL.

Note that he added water to his "petrol", not ethanol. For a gasoline/ethanol mixture, there is no separation. Only if this mix is contaminated with water will it separate; this is known as Phase Separation.

I have a 300 gallon above ground tank and the Co-op delivers no ethanol gas for about 75 cents a gallon more than regular. We have a number of Honda powered irrigation pumps along with the usual number of small engines that you’d find on a large property. I have better ways to spend my time than taking ethanol out of gas.

I watched this video when it first came out a few weeks or so ago. My question then after watching is the same as now. How do we know what he is saying is factual?

I'm not necessarily saying it isn't true because I don't know, -but it definitely would seem as simple as this trick is to do, that by now everyone would have known about it.

This has been around for a long time. It has been said that using this method also removes some of the important additives from the gas.

In regards to the octane rating of fuels the lower the octane the better for running an A. The high octane fuels are actually more difficult to ignite and burn. The lower octane will burn easier and give more power.

High octane fuels are for high compression engines that tend to pre ignite fuels due to cylinder pressure. You will not get more performance or better fuel mileage in an A by using them.

ethyl is the good stuff to drink. i read that the contents of hand sanitizer is 80 percent ethyl plus h2o2 and glycerin. it would be a good gargle. or just add an olive for a 160 proof martini. they used to go to great length to denature it but now with a good still you could make a fortune.
