Default Fordor gas tank felt sealer

I am ready to install my replacement gas tank of my 28 Fordor Leatherback. The original 6" X 6" felt was salvagable after removing the hardened tar-like sealer arounf the hole for the tank filler spout. What sealer should I use on the felt before I install the tank?
Thanks,
Supergnat

None is really needed as that is just an anti-squeak however anything from trim adhesive to duct tape will suffice while you are installing the tank.

Thanks for the tip Brent. Here is a better photo of the felt as it appeared on my original tank. I will use Permates #2. I thought the original material on the felt was there to prevent spilled gas from seeping under to cowl. It was hard and brittle so I was able to crush it and salvage the felt.

The black sticky vinyl like flashing material used on window replacement flashing and roof ice dams would serve that purpose.

I would think the original was tar and felt and would have also had a problem with any fumes.
