King Pin Bushing length?
Replacing the King Pins and Bushings and I noted that the bushing fits flush in the upper casting (top and bottom). In the lower casting the bushing fits flush with the top surface but extends about 1/16" out of the bottom of the lower casting. Sound right to anyone?
Thanks.

Re: King Pin Bushing length?
Yep. I just did mine and that is how both the new ones and the NOS looked. Be careful in that the new ones I ordered were too thick and the bushings would not even fit on the end of the reamer when I was holding them. I had to use my NOS set to get the right dimensions so the KP would fit without pounding it in.

Re: King Pin Bushing length?
No worries on that 1/16", the only thing that will come in contact with it is the felt seal between it and the backing plate.

Re: King Pin Bushing length?
The parts book shows different bushings. Upper A-3109, Lower A-3110.

Re: King Pin Bushing length?
The '31 parts book drawings show the lower bushing as being shorter than the top bushing.

Re: King Pin Bushing length?
Spindals installed and no problem. Yup the tiny extension was taken up with the felt washer. All good now. Thanks for all of the responses.

Re: King Pin Bushing length?
The king pin is the pin that connects the spindle to the axle.

Re: King Pin Bushing length?
Thanks for answer. Yes, I know that part on axle.
Sorry if I ask another unsuitable question here in this theme. When I asked here in the forum, whether to replace the wind vane, the water pump must be removed, I have received this answer, which I do not understand: Quote:

You can use the nut from the front axle king pin lock instead of the fan knock off tool pictured on the left. |

Re: King Pin Bushing length?
I to check the green book (cars up to 48 and trucks to 47) and shows the same number as Bob C posted only one length.

Werner:
Welcome to the forum. Several years ago my wife and I visited her relatives in Luzern. We also went on a nice drive up into Southern Germany. Every time I tried to ask for something using my horrible German, people would simply smile and answer me in English. That was 25 years ago, and my German has only gotten worse with a lack of use. Even though some things don't often translate, you do very good! |

Re: King Pin Bushing length?
Well, I had a chance to remove all of the bushings within each spindle I have and here is what I found:
Round Shape Early 1928 Spindles: Top Bushings averaged 1.1 inches (A-3109) Lower Bushings averaged 1.1 inches (A-3109) When it came to the Rectangular Shape Mid 1928 thru production Spindles: Top Bushings averaged 1.06 inches (A-3109) Lower Bushings averaged 0.97 inches (A-3110) Pluck Last edited by Steve Plucker; 01-27-2019 at 06:09 AM. |
