Even a Burned pile of Ash is worth Money
A totally burned up 1960 Corvette just had 99 bids and sold for $5900.
Sure sounds nuts to me, but good for the seller. http://www.ebay.com/itm/162396018491...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT BTW, a couple years ago a guy on here had a beautifully restored Model A Coupe that went through a bad garage fire. He posted some pictures of it, but it looked too tough to restore to me. I'm wondering if he was able to save any of it? |

I've been there with a workshop fire and losing restored cars - it's heartbreaking. I sold off what was left of mine so I understand what is happening here.
I suspect someone was prepared to pay the price for the numbers.

Good for the seller is right, wow. Someone paid the price for numbers matching all right. I don't get it.

Re: Even a Burned pile of Ash is worth Money
after trying to save what parts we could off a model A block that had been thru a fire that car is nothing but a pile of scrap...about all we could save was the side and front timing cover, bolts either snapped off or were siezed so bad a 3 ft cheater pipe wasnt going to remove them....
I bet that block and frame is all kinds of distorted if it was hot enough to melt the rims...

So the buyer gets the title, has a new data plate made, salvages the "numbers matching" block, and throws together a car from assorted parts and pieces. I smell a fraud in the making.

As long as the frame is usable, the rest can be replaced with no fraud that I can think of.

That looks like it saw a lot of Heat! I doubt the frame is any good.

Gee . . . guess I should have kept that thousand-buck 1960 Corvette afterall instead of flipping it in a month's time for a quickie $200 profit. Of course that was back in the late sixties when we were swapping and dealing old cars like baseball cards.
