Steering box question
I have a 28 Tudor with a 7 tooth sector and worm gear. Will a sector shaft adjustment take up any slack in a 4" steering wheel rim play before the pitman arm moves? The steering shaft end play is good.

Re: Steering box question
No mesh adjustment on the early box, see if you can take up any on sector without adding any drag. Look really close at the pitman to sector mounting, often the top - square end is wallowed and can be shimmed to take out play. All of the other linkage slop possibilities still remain a part of the complete train system.

Re: Steering box question
Push and pull on the steering wheel to see if it has excess play, which is removed by removing the square brass shims from the bottom end cap on the steering box.
The only other adjustment you have is to turn the screw on the side of the box, then tighten the lock nut, to remove excess sector shaft end play. Also make sure the pitman arm clamping bolt is tight, as any play in the square shaft mounting area will be greatly multiplied at the steering wheel. Also check the frame mounting bolts for any looseness. I've seen those frame hole worn out from loose mounting bolts. |

Re: Steering box question
Excellent points Tom and I agree
I have seen many loose at those points. Additionally check your steering linkage for tightness . I like the steereEze kit with new balls on the arms and everything smooth. When all is done right it makes for a nice tight eze steer |
