Ford started to contract out the A & B castings a few years after the end of production. The industrial and agricultural applications for these lasted a long time after the production of the cars & trucks that used them stopped.

B motors are not pressure to crank like cars were in late 30"s and thru the forties ..If you call 3 to 4 lbs oil pressure pressure to mains so be it ..oiling is an open system same as model A..model A's used gravity and the B used 3 to 4 lbs pressure to the mains..by an open system i mean there is a hole in front of oil galley open to timing gear same as model A..My rebuilt B motor runs about 4 psi at around town speed when hot that is also the pressure to the mains no more....sc... my rebuilder in carson city set me straight on this....some tails get started and its impossible correct them.

my b motor with a tightened up pump and a restriction in the front of the main galley made 80lbs! too much, had to open up the restriction a bit and put in a stock pump to settle for around 10 at idle and 40 goin down the road.

Keep in mind that the hole behind the timing gear is there to keep the dipper tray full, not to oil the timing gear. If you want increased oil pressure to the mains but don't drill the crank for pressure to the rods you must make provisions to get adequate amounts of oil from the galley to the dipper tray. The usual method is a pressure relief valve that dumps oil from the galley to the valve chamber, usually at 20-25 psi. It's a different ball game with a drilled crankshaft and pressure to the rods.
