Default '40 tail light wire routing.

What is the correct routing of the tail light wiring harness from the tail lights to the main harness? Through the frame or over the top? It seems I took my '40 apart more than 30 years ago and now I can't remember how the wires got from the lights to the main harness...

Thanks!

There are others more qualified to answer, but from my '38 and '40, the wires run inside the frame and lay on the top of the lower flange. The are held in place by spring clamps.

Thanks! You are correct; that is how the main harness runs from the firewall to the back of the chassis. However, what I need to know is the routing of the wiring from the tail light buckets to the connection with the main harness... through a hole in the frame or over the top of the frame.

From the tail lamps to the frame harness?
The crossover harness (if you have two tail lamps) is placed atop the lower - rear most, cross member. To clarify, this is the member just below your tool tray. This cross over harness is fixed to that member with two clips.
That harness connects to the tail lamp harness very near the rear most left corner where the side (frame) rail meets the rear most cross member.

From the buckets? The conduit is placed over the frame (rear member) at the very corner(s) where the side rail(s) meet the rear member.
