Default Front Shocker - Broken Axle Mounting Points

My '28 Phaeton has no shock absorbers. I'd like to find some one day, but given the state of play on rebuilt Houdaille shockers at the moment, am keeping a bit of an eye out for rebuilt or repairable MGB units.

This picture of my front axle shows that the mounting "ball" is missing. Same thing on the other side.

Was this a point of failure (is that the reason my car ended up with no shockers)? Or would the removal of this part have been a deliberate act at some time, and if so, for what purpose?

Has anyone else had this to deal with?

Looks like removal was by flame wrench and deliberate.

I agree with James, deliberate removal with flame wrench

the best repair would be new perches, they do sell the ball with a stud for rear axle shock ball repair, but I don't think a repair would hold up to long term use of properly working shocks

Looks like the king pin locking bolts are in backwards.

You are correct. The nuts need to be to the rear.

Yeah, I kinda thought it looked deliberate too. Why would anyone do this?
Thanks for the pickup on the king pin locking bolts, James and Bob.
