Interesting, but what has this to do with the value of a '39 convertible? That's what this thread is about. I'm with "DavidG" on this.

I guess it has to do with the OP asking what the difference is between a Standard and De Luxe. That is my guess. I could be wrong.

What you are asking is a difficult answer....most on here are savvy V8 Ford owners and specifically 39 enthusiast.....so to safely say they know the in's and out's even better than me is an understatement. There is ALSO a lot of factors for even me to educatedly give you an answer....First for me is rust, how much and where, second is sheet metal straightness, third would be completeness (and Correctness) and fourth would be running gear (Running or not running, shifting..if so does run and drive does it grind, pop out of gear etc etc). I am more mechanically adept than paint and body work savvy so I would be willing to pay more for a very solid straight car that doesn't run than maybe other would. Then what are you wanting to do with the car.....If it doesn't run it lowers the price AND IF its not the correct year flathead..it lowers the price again....For ME!!!! Just as you have posted..... with out pictures or any "real" description (and everyone's eye and description is different and or accurate) its a very difficult to say!!!!! Post pictures, they'll be plenty who will pick them apart for you and give you the pro's and con's THEN you can get a better feel for value!!!!

Rusty floors.
All other panels and fenders need some work.
Motor not going.
Needs top, upholstery, tires, electrics, paint etc.
Around $20K I guess.
At least that's what I paid for one several years ago.

Took pictures today the car looks good to me outside and the interior is all there. No dents all chrome and interior gauges. All the grill and front seat is leather but not sure if original type good door panels. Windows roll up and down nicely, doors open and shut good. Underneath I see at rear seat area trunkfloor has lot of rot. To me a complete car.
Jseery is going to post pictures for me. Let me know what you think

Theres a great looking '36 drophead on evilbay today for 19,600 We all think our stuff is worth more than it is. me included. But that '39 is a very sweet car. Even better when the sealed beams are gone.

Compared to the 36 if you paid $10k for the 39 it would cost you more than $19.6k to make it look as good even doing all the work yourself. Checked out the price of paint lately? Unlikely to spend less than $2k on name brand paint materials by itself without labor.

Between the lack of drain holes in the floor immediately in front of the rumble seat bottom cushion and the water retention tendencies of the jute backing on the underside of the floor mat, heavy rust or rust through is common on '37-'39 cabriolets/convertibles even when the rest the body is in good shape as this one appears to be. I don't recall anyone making a reproduction of that unique section of the floor.

I hope a good restorer gets that one. It deserves to be restored to it's former glory. They are nicest looking of the Ford Cabriolets.

Depending on the price, i would just make it a driver. Plenty of high quality restored cars that can be bought for a fraction of the cost to restore one correctly.
