Default '31 Deluxe Roadster production dates etc.

What was the date that the dual fender spares were replaced by a single rear spare? I've read that this was done so that the selling price could be lowered.
I have done a site search, looked at the Ford Garage web-site and consulted the Judging Standards and not found an answer.
My friend Chuck recently acquired a '31 40-B Dlx with fender spares and my '31 only has a rear mounted spare. Neither car has the late indented firewall. Original paperwork is missing for both cars.
His will be black (currently red) and mine is Washington Blue (originally Brewster Green). I see a lot of Washington Blue......was/is that the most popular roadster color? Just wondering. Russ

I wonder if the answer isn't in the SERVICE LETTERS?

I was thinking it was the end of 1930, but don't quote me.

Russ, the 1930 Dlx. Roadster came from the factory with a LH fender mount spare. RH was an option.

'31 Dlx. Roadster had the spare moved back, to the back, and any fender mounted spare was optional. I have never seen an actual 'date' that they did this I suppose maybe late November when the '31's were coming out and they went back to a full splash apron.

I prefer the looks of the factory photo of a '31 w/ spare on back, actually better than the fender mounted spare.

I too have seen tons of Washington Blue Roadsters. It is the prettiest color on that body style by far, a lot of other folks must think so too

Imho
Side mounts are nothing but in the way, cumbersome and drive up the cost of resto
But if a car is to be a display-only trailer queen, the look good from afar
But that's why Baskin Robins make 32 flavors!

A regular diet of Baskin Robbins' Pralines & Cream & White Chocolate/Macadamia Cookies, will make your car SHRINK!
