Need a 6x6 U joint
Without going into all of the gory details as to why, does someone make a 6x6 spline U-joint like the one shown here?

Re: Need a 6x6 U joint
Dana-Spicer would be the modern replacement style.
Ford themselves switched from the "ring" version shown to the Dana-Spicer model some time mid-Model A production. Today the ring style is no longer available but the Dana-Spicer Pattern is UNIVERSAL, even for modern cars. To the point of being able to "mix & match" input and output sides - the cross and bearing paks of similar size units are all the same. Like me working up a conversion to allow the use of the Warford Overdrive auxiliary transmission (which was actually produced for the 1928-29 AA to replace the "Dual High.") but in my case was being adapted to replace the driveshaft mid-extension used with the 1930+ AA 4-speed Borg Warner Tranny. "In the day" this was done to parts and part numbers showing in Ford's 1948 era "Green Book" - the part numbers being Ford numbers (but made by Dana-Spicer) This requires today a "mix & match" D-S universal joint - one side to match the Borg-Warner, the other side to match the AA driveshaft. This may be akin to what you are doing. I can't remember spline-counts or sizing for the Warford application. You can check out the Dana-Spicer site and they USED to have some engineering information. OR you can go to your nearest driveline specialist and he might actually have the parts in hand - or can get them. Warning though - Dana-Spicer makes the odd sizes "irregularly." You may or may not find the part you're looking for (might be back-ordered) even though it shows in the catalog. Joe K

Re: Need a 6x6 U joint
If you are using a Model A 3-speed trans wouldn't that be just a standard Ford ujoint

Re: Need a 6x6 U joint
I’m mixing some A andAA components and need to hook a dual hi to an A driveshaft. I have a u joint with six on both ends but it is a little shorter than the shown here and won’t extend past the inner coupler. The one show here is long enough but it’s a 6x10.

Re: Need a 6x6 U joint
I measured some u-joints I have and all the 6x10's were 4 5/8" and the 6x6's
were 4 1/4". Bob |
