Spindle Kits
Planning to change out the spindles and associated hardware in a few weeks. How is the quality of the kits from the main vendors ? Does any vendor offer domestic made kits ?

Re: Spindle Kits
I have not purchased a kit for a few years and as you know there are several components in a kit. The pins were imports buts the bearings, bushings, felts, etc were USA. It may be different right now.

Re: Spindle Kits
Before buying new spindle bolts, check the existing bolts for ware. They may be usable. Generally, my test is to run a fingernail along the spindle bolts over the areas where the bushings were. If the fingernail does not feel a ridge, reuse the bolts and replace the bushings.

Re: Spindle Kits
I just redid mine and I had to use an NOS kit as the bushings were to small for the bolts I had. Still not sure how that happened. But the bearings were USA made, not sure about the bushings.

Quote:
Bushings are normally sold to press fit the spindle, but require reaming to size to fit the Kingpin. I have seen kingpins which the groove (for the retaining taper pin) were in the wrong position. This allowed the shoulder under the head of the kingpin to not contact the bearing - and the load was taken entirely by the lower side of the axle. So yes, new old stock is probably best - if you can find it. Joe K

Re: Spindle Kits
Joe, I am not sure what happened between the time I rebuilt the front end last and this time. The bushing I ordered would slip on the KP but when I installed them into the spindle I had to knock the KP in with a Ball Peen. And that is after reaming them four times. This is why I ended up with a NOS set up. So still not sure why but the NOS set up is just fine in the car now.
