Default 8BA in a 35/36

I'm looking specifically for what people are using for upper radiator hoses when late heads are installed in a 1935/36.
Thanks, Joe

I'd like to see this too. I'd also like to see how to fit a stock fan on an 8ba in a 36. I hate electric fans

I have given this some thought, a 53 merc is one of my engine options
There's thermostat housings that are made for the larger hoses

I am pretty sure I can drill for oil to 37-48 pumps, and there's the sealed bearing replacement pumps
Original intake and front cover, machine snout of crankshaft to early pulley specs

Use 59 style rear main cap, oversized hollow dowel pins for modified stay rods-- cut trans adapter in1/2, add oil pan mount bosses, use original pan.
Perhaps people that have tried such modification can say why it won't work I am not at the decision time in the restoration yet, and there's the 59 block that is at 3/8 that is crying for a 4.250 crankshaft, that block doesn't even hav any of the "factory " cracks and has the cleanest water jackets that I have ever seen

Tons of info. has been written about installing an 8BA into 36-40 Fords.
When you Googgle "Install an 8BA into a 1936 ford" this appears.
https://www.google.com/search?q=how+...hrome&ie=UTF-8

Then read every link shown that mentioned anything close to what you are trying to do. Your biggest problem will be getting the 8BA fan to fit properly as it sits too high for the slanted 36 radiator. However, here's one solution:
https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showt...+fan+clearance and
https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/...stion.1128673/

Drake sells the fan pulley. look here:
https://www.google.com/search?q=bob+...N4UWOWB9grCDM:

He also has the larger thermostat housings you will need.

Not a problem Paul. I kinda figured it would be something custom.
Thanks

I don't have a choice but to run an electric fan. With a blower there's no room for a fan!

Here’s mine, pretty easy w 90 degree stainless tube & standard cooling Sys rubber parallel connections. Also while hard to see in pic I cut dow the dia. Of a stock 4 blade fan & it fits clearing the overhang on the radiator. But I also use an electric push Spal fan between radiator & grille.

Would be better if you could lower the mechanical fan assembly to center of radiator.
Is your radiator straight or slanted?

I don't have a picture handy to post here, but when I did this conversion many years ago on a 35 coupe, I recall the top hoses connected to the thermostat housing necks, and were basically a straight shot up to the inlet tubes on a stock '35 radiator, either small or large top tank versions.

Start at post 10 then 20 and link.

Most of us are aware of the center fan of 40s flatheads. So anything is possible.

Seems a natural connection 8ba heads to a 35 rad.

mogiley….That sounds very interesting! Is there any way you could possibly post a couple of pictures of that? If you have difficulty posting pics here on the 'Barn, could you maybe e-mail 'em to me so I could post them here on the forum for you? DD

Thanks JM. I'm trying to stay away from the flex hose because of the look of it.
I'm going to prop the radiator on today and get some measurements. I'll see what I come up with.
Thanks, Joe

Ol' Ron.....The picture below is a Beech 18. Compare it with MY avatar. My pic is a Cessna T-50......in fact, it's Sky King's T-50. DD

if your test fitting for hose length, put the radiator support rods on, to get the correct angle. it was more than I thought

Got no photos sorry, but what I did was use a couple of Flathead Jack's thermostat housings to suit the big radiator hose...cut each one parallel with the flange, about 5/8" up. This allowed me to 'orientate' each outlet to suit a straight length of hose [as original in 35], and TIG welded them back on. Still not perfectly in line [one side more so than the other], but I could use original 35 top hoses.
