Default 1940 Ford coupe

Wondering if a Deluxe front end sheetmetal and grille fit a Standard model without any alterations on 1940 models.

If you change the hood and grille (including the part the hood latches to and side louvers) and bumper irons it will all fit. Fenders are same, headlight doors are different. If you have all the parts it is a bolt on change. If I forgot something Kube will post.

Why would you ?
Standard looks better IMHO.
Much sleeker than the '40 deluxe front which has been rounded off.
I guess to prepare the car buying public for the all new 41 shape.
Mind you the '40 mercury stayed with the sleeker front.

I vote for the Deluxe sheet metal. Worth much more at NADA.com as well.

Nope, you nailed it.
Bumper irons from the Ford V8 (aka "standard") model can be used but will bring the bumper about 1 1/2" closer to the deluxe grille than was designed.

To pass the car off as a Deluxe, you would also have to either change the dash or drill holes for the chrome trim, change the glove box door and of course, the gauge cluster, all the knobs, hubcaps, trunk badge, probably add another visor too as well as the rest of the interior and all handles and cranks and escutcheons, steering wheel and horn button.
I like them both, as I have a V8 business coupe and a deluxe wagon.

Guys, I'd like to add that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. That being said, keep in mind that Deluxe models typically bring about 10% more than the so called "standard" models.
So, apparently most folks think the Deluxe model is more attractive.

Good point Kube. In addition the OP did not say why he wanted to change. Might be as simple as he has a Deluxe front end that is in better shape than the Standard.

Can't help with the original question, don't know I like both , love to look at them and normally don't notice trim level (deluxe or standard) like the ones with the nicest stance and panel fit ,was searching for 39-40 coupe for a while but my pockets weren't deep enough , found my 40 2 door sedan standard no regrets, but still love to have a coupe to go with my sedan ,was also told front bumper irons were diff between standard and deluxe
