Default Help to ID this model B small engine part

I posted this question on the early V8 forum as well.

Today I removed my model B engine from my 33 Tudor to work on an rear main oil leak. At the end of the work day found this small part just next to where the engine block is sitting to do this job. I don't know what this part is or where it fell from but it seems to be some type of plug. The parts that I removed include the oil pan, the caps, crankcase, front cover, valve side cover, fuel pump, distributor, manifolds with attached carburetor. It must come from one of them. It is solid, was covered with thick grease, material appears dark steel or iron. Photos provide more information and I can take more if needed. Can somebody help to identify it? Thanks for your input. Manuel

Hello Manual, I have a B Motor but am not an expert, I have never seen that part before but I wonder if it may be an after market part to replace the cam shaft trust plunger in the timing cover. The original ford plunger is flat on the end with a couple of groves for lubrication and a recess in the other end where the spring goes. Just a thought worth checking.

I was thinking the same thing, and you can even see the circle wear marks where something was spinning against it.

Runnerbun and Tom. Thanks! good catch. After you mention the cam plunger I checked the timing cover looking for a spring. This is what I found. The plunger must have fallen from here. It may not be Ford but do you think is adequate to do the job or do I have to look for an original one?

It's probably just fine but use caution when installing it so that it stays in place.

I agree with Jim, it's probably ok to reuse. Although the design is different to the original ford part I don't see why it wouldn't work just as well. It's the strength of the spring that's important. and I don't know how to measure that.
If you are ordering parts from a supplier it might be a good time to replace it. I see Snyders list price is $3.95 so cost is not an issue. Part number is A6275/76 B motor and A motor use the same part.

It looks like a part from a puller.Somebody might have stuck it in there years ago to get going again.

I would use an original style part. This will have a lot of pounds per square inch on the small contact surface vs. an original part with a large flat contact area.
