Yes. Old hot rod technology not to surpass what was available in '53.

You are right about the Youtube video's, plus I have seen 2 or 3 TV shows with coverage on TROG, which may also be avaiable on Youtube and other internet websites.

Walt and Tim -

We aren't trying to break any 1952 NHRA drag racing records.
We actually do not allow any factory overheads. I know that Olds and Cadillac had their first OHV in 1949 and the first hemi in 1951.

But we are trying to stick to flatheads and 4 cylinders with some unique sprinkled in engines. We don't want people going 100 mph at the end of the beach and running over people sun bathing. This isn't an actual race track with perfectly flat pavement. it's a beach with sand formed by the ocean and cars doing passes. Two years ago, we had an amazing 32 3 window with a Hemi on the beach, mostly because the car was so awesome, the engine was overlooked by accident during registration, and there was no direct comparable car that could be a good race pair for this car. Everyone else had flatheads. So it was basically doing exhibition runs, but couldn't be a contender to win the class. The owner of that car since built another car with a flathead.

So, to answer your question Walt, you can put a flathead in a Model A. You can put an OHV conversion on a 4 banger. You can build an Ardun Flathead. There will be a few vintage Offy's this year in an exhibition class. But we discourage the big horsepower stuff primarily for safety reasons.

UPDATE
I just spoke with the guys, and that will be a change on the soon to be up new website. No OHV engines newer than 1948 outside of OHV conversions to flatheads. (or vintage Offy's, or the early chevy, etc...)

Jason:

Thank you. I guess I spoke too soon. I was probably thinking of that Hemi car when I responded to Walt. Thanks for clarifying.

I'm building a flathead right now for a friend that's building a Model A roadster street rod to run that ( Race of Gentleman ) he was there last year and fell right in love with that R of G. If I was 20 years younger I'd be there. Walt

Thanks for the link Brendan. I kept hearing about them starting a Pismo Trog, but could never get any info or verification on it. Guess you answered that. I don't facebook. But then, I don't text or have an I-Phone either. Still using my 1987 flip top. LOL. Sucks getting old.
