The Ami with experience instead ask for a regularly calibrated torque wrench for his 1929 tractor.

youre wasting your time. you will either mis calculate or leave out some varible. so you will end up as acurate as "that feels good". so you might as well just start there or go buy the correct tool.

they said that feels good and they ran it. low torque numbers are usually there to keep people from locking stuff up or breaking it. thats why the "good feel" can ride most of the time.

Up through the '50's, maybe '60's, most guys grew up watching/helping their dads/grandpas, uncles, older cousins, etc. overhaul engines, transmissions,etc., so early on developed a 'feel' for how much to tighten a particular bolt. That training has now been largely lost, partly because Dads have desk jobs, and partly because many single (voluntarily single,often) mothers don't think their sons need a father to teach them how to use their hands!
