Shoebox Brake Drum replacement
I bought new drums from Dennis Carpenter. I received what was pictured in the catalog. But they don't fit. There is an extra lip on the new drum that interferes with a piece of the backing plate. My old drum didn't have this lip. It wouldn't be very hard to cut this piece off of the backing plate. But I don't want to start cutting stuff until I know what the deal is.
Is this the way it's supposed to be? Did I get the wrong part? I would think that if I was supposed to cut the backing plate they would have had some kind of note in the catalog or in the box or something. My car is a 1950 2 door couple. Original V8 car with overdrive. I have attached to this post a picture of the new drum, my old drum, my finger pointing at the piece of the backing plate that is in the way. And also my hand holding the lip on the new drum that I'm talking about. Hopefully, that makes sense. Thanks in advance! |

It looks like a different drum. Did they list it as fitting your application?

This is out of the catalog. This is what I ordered, and this is what is pictured in the catalog. I'm going to call Dennis Carpenter tomorrow.

My '50 has drums just like the last picture you posted so I think they sent you the wrong ones. If you dont get any satisfaction from them, try Shoebox Central. Good luck.

Called Dennis Carpenter today. The guy didn't know what the heck I was talking about. I emailed them the pictures...still waiting for a response.
I double checked my receipt and I definitely ordered the right thing. |

Re: Shoebox Brake Drum replacement
Is the depth of the new drum the same as your original?
If it is, could you have the new drum extra ridge "turned" and removed so it would fit? |

Why should you have modify a brand new drum to fit when a correct drum is available? If not from Carpenter then from another vendor such as Shoe Box or?

I noticed on C&G site when you looked up the drum for a 1950 it says
"replacement design" https://cgfordparts.com/ufolder/ford...number=0A-1125 |

And it lists the same part number that I ordered. And the same part number that is on the box in which it came. |
