Not in my '54 or a friends '53 Ford with a 302/AOD swap. My AOD is on the stock transmission cross member using an ANCHOR 2253 mount pictures here. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/m...-mounts.41498/

Not in my 56 Wagon, but there is a tilt downward at the stem of the transmission. I think it was from the installers not bothering with leveling the motor.

Has anyone have a positive about installing AOD. I love the AOD in my F150, the way it shifts lower rpms. or am I missing the point

Will an AOD bolt up to a Y-Block V8 ? I'm thinking no.

I have an AOD in my 55 bird with a stroked Y block engine that makes a little over 300 hp with many mods.
The car runs down the highway at an easy 70-80 with lower engine rpms and thus less wear and tear and better mileage and much quieter. The car also handles decent hills and valleys much better by downshifting manually when needed on a steep descent. I went with the AOD because of this reason, but you will have to make sure you have shift linkage that will allow you to select all of the gears manually.
The question on any transmission swap is it worth the time effort and money to get these benefits. There are many trade-offs involved.

I think that if an old car owner intends to honestly travel some distance over 200 miles then you can appreciate the difference. But honestly most guys I know don't really get in their cars and drive across the country that often. There driving mostly consists of local car shows and a side trip under 100 miles with an occasional parade.
I have driven trips in mine from 800-1000 mile roundtrip and it was better.

The downside for many is the cost of the adapter kit and labor in many cases you can get a good running 302/5.0 and AOD and use 1984-93 Fox Body mounts to put it into a 1954-59 car for the same or less money and have it in in less time. If you already have a Ford-O-Matic column it is EZ to hook up the AOD just add the Lokar kit for the TV cable. Also the 1989-93 AOD's are non-computer and have the later lubrication upgrades and improved valve body so make those your preferred
donor.

I have a couple of TBird friends that have put AOD's in their TBirds and like them a lot. Both of them travel a lot with their cars (cross country trips as well as partial cross country trips). Both put them behind Yblocks

I put a C4 in mine and have gone cross country (with the above) and am not disappointed with it. Reasonable gas mileage, though not as good as the AOD guys of course. RPMs at 65 or so is around 2800 so I'm not really buzzing the engine that bad.

I used the Flat-O-matic kit.
