Default 1932 torque tube length

I have two torque tubes, one is supposed to be a 1933/1934 and measures 62" long, the other is supposed to be a 32 and also measures 62" long

Looking for the following measurements so i will know for sure what i have and also so others that encounter this same thing will have a reference in the future:

Length of 1932 V8 torque tube
Length of 1933/1934 V8 torque tube
Length of 1933/1934 4 cylinder torque tube (if it's different than the V8)

Thanks in advance

Green Book does not list the lengths of the Torque Tubes, but it does list the lengths of the driveshafts if that is of any help!

32 B4605A 56 31/64
33-34 40 4605 60 5/32 (V8)
33-34 46 4605 58 7/16 (4 cyl)

I am fairly sure the torque tube are likewise different lengths.

1932 T-Tube is 53-5/16".

'33-'34 V8 tube is 61-7/8".

'33-'34 4-cylinder tube is 60-11/64".

I believe '32 early rear and 18 rear tubes differ sightly in length due to different total snout length of the banjo. The numbers are on this board somewhere; I think they may be in a post by PeteVS, and that will make the search easier if correct.

I believe DavidG alluded to the difference being 0.02", if I remember correctly. DD

.02 is the difference in the lengths of the two '32 torque tubes, but absolutes are 54.87" for the early one and 54.89" for the late one.

In fairness, I did not come up with those by breaking out the tape measure, but rather they're from the original engineering drawings.

Since I have each of the torque tubes in question, I'll go out to my barn tomorrow and measure them.
I do remember off the top of my memory is that the difference between 33-34 8 and 4 cylinder models is 1 5/8". The shorter one is the 4.

These measurements seem to be all over the place, are they being taken using different reference points? There is about a 1.24 inch difference between V8COOPMAN's measurement and David's drawing number. Were there v8 and 4 cyl differences in 32? This seems like more than just measurement error.

The tube in mine measures 52-1/4! Later rear,40 trans, but sure fits nice in the wheel well. Is it possible they are measuring from the clamshell mounting surface? And not hooked on the front bell of the actual tube?

I ve got mine on the shed floor at the moment, so easy to measure reasonably accurately. So late '32, its a gnats tadger over 53 3/8". Thats less than a 1/16 over, but not possible to get closer with a tape measure.

How much shorter is a 32 rear housing than a 40?

NOTE the info in post #7 (in the link BELOW), and the added length with the use of a B-4513 Inner U-joint Cap while measuring.

https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showth...e+shaft+length

Read the complete thread.......interesting info all of it. It still looks like a bare '32 torque tube measures ~ 53-3/8" overall length. This seems to question the accuracy of the noted length on David's drawing.

Could SOMEONE with a bare, known-'32 torque tube layin' on the bench, please go out to the shop and lay a tape on it? DD

I could have misread the drawing, but won't be able to check it again for four months so if someone measures one unattached, that's the measurement to go with.
