These flatheads are so simple they are complicated. One simple thing complicates the system. Once fixed it'll run for a long time. Good thing is it just might be ignition and fuel

Sounds like distributor cap and or wires/connections.
By the way, my dad bought his only new car ever [for his own use] in 1954. It was an ohv 239 Y-block, custom line, tudor sedan for about $1850. It was very basic, straight shift, no radio, rubber floor mats, but a nice car, just a plain-jane. I wish I still had it. Al Hook |

I love seeing toughs original invoices. They are a little piece of history.
I also collect tractors and bought my '55 Ford 850 (the larger of Fords 2 basic models) because of the original invoice that came with it. I'm amazed at the price for the radio on the Woody. That was a lot of money, at that time! But, note the price of anti freeze on my invoice.
