Default Seat back on 1956 Tbird came disconnected from bottom seat

While working on the soft top, I noticed the seat back was not connected to the bottom seat. I found a broken shaft or stud nearby and figured that was the culprit. I couldn’t find any such parts or images on how the seat is put together in any of the parts catalogs or the shop manual I have.

Can anyone confirm the stud in the picture is what holds the seat back to the bottom seat? Is it just a stud that a hole in the seat back slips over? Any idea where to get a part like this or something I could use in place of it?

Yes the stud holds the seat back to the base one on either side
Held with a cotter (split) pin

That’s what it looked like to me. Any idea where one would get that stud?

Does the cotter pin hold the stud in the base or hold the seat back on the stud? (Under the vinyl that covers the hole)

Maybe the stud could be welded back to the base
The pin hold the seat back to the base

Yes the stud is supposed to be part of the arm at the bottom of the seat-back. It looks like the original weld on the outer flat side may not have been sufficient, allowing it to fall out.
Pull the vinyl boot off of the arm and you should see the empty hole where the stud fits in. Put the stud all the way back in with a clamp or two keeping it tight and give it a quicky welding job. That should fix it.

If you need a picture of either side of the lower arm and stud without the vinyl cover, I've got another seat-back here that's out of the car and fairly easy to get to.
Example photo is of the passenger side...

Ah, got it. I thought the stud broke off, but a broken weld makes sense looking at how Kmart it looked.

Having stripped all of the upholstery and foam from my 55 Tbird seat, I can tell you that the quality of the welds is pretty poor. I'm no welder, but I think I could have done as well/better.
