The EAC on the heads indicate '52-'53 Merc. heads, but not necessarily a Mercury engine.

Re: Identify 52 flathead in ford freighter f1
C1BA is a Canadian 8BA type likely 1951 or later. Ford changed the 8BA heads to EAB in 1952. Canadian engines were built in Windsor, Ontario and their evolution is a bit different than the ones made in Detroit at the Rouge. EAC on the cylinder heads usually have the Mercury name on there but it's hard to tell without more info. Heads are easily replaceable so the motor could be a 239 or a 255. The Mercury cars and Canadian Monarch cars were the only ones with the 255 from the factory.

Considering the time laps since this engine has been built, you'd never know just what's inside the block. All these components are interchangeable with other years and models.

Re: Identify 52 flathead in ford freighter f1
That number is for the N0.3 cross member on a Ford commercial (pickup) frame from the years 1942 through 1947. The 21C prefix indicates 2 = 1942, 1 = 221 cid, & C = commercial.
There should be a frame/engine number stamped near the steering gear box on the top of the left frame rail. If it's rusty then it might be very hard to find without wire brushing it off a bit. It also depends on how rusty it is. Engine numbers weren't stamped on the engine. They were stamped on the transmission upper bell housing flat area above the inspection plate. After the engine/trans were dropped into the frame, the number was then stamped on the frame rail. The 1942 model stopped production for the war effort then started back up again in 1945 using the same basic chassis & cab through 1947. Last edited by rotorwrench; 02-26-2019 at 01:37 PM. |

This link gives serial numbers. http://www.vanpeltsales.com/FH_web/f...ialnumbers.htm
Any other numbers are just part numbers or numbers with little or no meaning. 4200 series numbers indicate rear axle parts. Some part numbers aren't even in the parts books since they are part of a larger assembly. |

The no PA4257F are the only numbers I can find on the drivers side rail between the steering box and the diagonal brace at the front

This is from Vanpelt's site. I would assume your truck is from Canada so the
information may not apply. http://www.vanpeltsales.com/FH_web/F...1-52trucks.jpg Bob |
