They are difinately NOT being made. I have an extra one on sale this week for only $99.99 The are NOT very rare. I saw three of them in just the last 10 national meets alone !
Unless you are keen on a Fine Point Blue ribbon contest, I would suggest that the more common (original) knob will work just fine. Very few people would know that the round ball should be a "mushroom". Lots of places to advertise for one, just start your search. P.S. - No, I really do NOT have one for $99.99 - just a little bit of levity there. Although I really do have one, it is not as nice as Glen in Camino's, but is not for sale at this time. I thought I had recently read that the early knobs were round. Apparently I was mistaken.
Any chance of getting one of you guys that has an early 28 knob to post a picture? |

Use the 'Search' tab (found in the black horizontal line at top of this page), and put in "Mushroom Gear Shift Knob". All previous posts and threads related to "Mushroom Gear Shift Knob" will appear. On several of the posts I looked at there were photos of the Mushroom Knob.

And not to be confused with the rather squat looking 4 speed AA truck transmission knob.
It has a larger thread too. And were used on US Army vehicles up through WWII - and are not rare at all. Joe K

I bought a tranny once just because it had the mushroom knob on it. That's the knob I carefully wrapped with leather and tried to remove using a strap wrench. It wouldn't budge, so I sprayed some GIBBS on it and forgot about it for about 5 days. When I came back I unscrewed it with my hand. Wish all tight things would work that nice.

As I understand it the mushroom knob was used during the muliplate time period, then it changed to the round knob, though I'm not sure they both changed at the same time in late 1928.
