Spindle identification help please
Does anyone know what this spindle is? It’s drivers side and it’s a round spindle and the top is flat. Would this be a lincoln? Also the shaft is the same as 40 ford and accepts same bearings and hubs. Thanks

Re: Spindle identification help please
See if it is marked 78-xxxx. Might be a modified 37-41 right hand steering ford spindle.

Re: Spindle identification help please
Well, it's obviously for a right-hand drive car. It favors the round American '37-'41 spindles except for the flat portion at the top king pin hole. DD

Re: Spindle identification help please
Notice the step in the flange unlike a 40 ford however it was mated up to a 40 ford backing plate perfectly when I got it

Re: Spindle identification help please
But if it’s a RH side spindle the steering arm would go out the front?? It has to go on the LH side of car for the steering arm to face rearward

Re: Spindle identification help please
Check the king pin inclination, IIRC Lincoln is 4* and Ford spindles are 8*. Could that flat have been put on it to clear the interference with a Lincoln backing plate?

Re: Spindle identification help please
The top of the spindle looks like how we grind the 37-41 Ford round spindle for MT Lincoln brakes

Re: Spindle identification help please
Lincoln spindles are more rectangular or squarish than round. Lincolns also have a king pin larger than .813". I don't believe they're Lincolns. DD

Re: Spindle identification help please
This uses the same kingpin as a 37-41 ford spindle. Also that step in the flange where the backing plate fits has me puzzled.

Re: Spindle identification help please
Are you sure it's not aftermarket? Ford should have part number shouldn't it? Unless it was ground off.

Re: Spindle identification help please
I’m thinking it’s a 40 ford (or aftermarket) right hand drive. That someone ground to fit lincoln brakes.

Re: Spindle identification help please
Ok, after looking at the enlarged pictures, it is a LH spindle for a RH drive vehicle. My mistake. Do you have a pair of those or just that one? How did you end up with it?

Re: Spindle identification help please
I have to agree with 19-c, I’ve never seen aftermarket spindles with integral steering arms.

Re: Spindle identification help please
It came on a project I purchased and the other side had a LHD spindle so in other words both sides of the car had double eyelets. I didn’t want to cut the arm off as I’m sure there are some people looking for right hand drive parts

Re: Spindle identification help please
I agree on LH spindle for RHD vehicle, Probably 37 to 41 Ford with top area modified for Lincoln backing plate.
