In most instances, the filler neck is part of the tank.

There were a few different tanks. These are actually tanks that I have for sale.

Some of the tanks that I can think of off the top of my head...
A 28-29 style tank
A tank that was mounted under a solid cowl in 1929 I believe.
A 1930 early tank that still had the oval 1929 speedometer
A 1930-early 31 tank with round speedo
A late 1931 tank with the gas shut off valve on the engine side of the firewall

The tank that was mouned under the cowl for 1929 Fordors is a standard tank - not a special.

No.

No. The first two years of Model A (1928-29) had a different cowl shape than the last two years (30-31)

Yes, '28-'29, 10 gal, '30-'31, 11 gal.

The town sedan and the cabriolets with the 28-29 style tank would have a sheet metal 'cover' that would be over the tank.

We are restoring a 1929 60C Leatherback Fordor. The gas tank really needs cleaning out. We have removed all the necessary hardware, but cannot get the tank to drop out of the filler neck in the solid cowl. The filler neck is stuck firmly in the hole in the cowl. What do we need to do too loosen it up so we can drop it out as we should be able to?

Could be paint around the filler or the pad that goes between the tank and cowl. If it is paint score around the filler. Maybe try bumping the filler with a rubber mallet. Don't wail on it, just tap.

Did you remove all of the bolts under the hood lacing?
Did you remove the center section of the fire wall?

There are also bolts under the dash which may be covered by fabric under the dash. I have a couple of photos I will send as soon as I reduce the file size.

Here are the photos which show the bolt holes with the fabric pulled back. It is hard to disconnect the fabric without damaging it but it can be nailed back in place once the replacement tank is installed. Just pull back from under the dask so you don't damage the fabric on the dash. I had a difficult time getting the new tank in. I think I should have adjusted the tank flange a little more so I would have a better installation. Kind of late now though. Good luck, Supergnat
