Re: Toyota chassis
The trouble is, it will be a TON of work and when it is done it will be worth less than if you had just repaired the original. So many of the modern "improvements" are that way. If you stay within the era, such as installing a 32 V8 or such in an A, it doesn't negatively affect the buyers as much, but stick a pinto engine in there and you've just turned off 75% of your buyers. My experience anyway, your mileage may vary!

Re: Toyota chassis
I have a buddy that is determined to put an “A” on a 49 ford chassis>“ Oh i will just widen the body “ what about the fenders and an independent front , what about wheel base.
Personally I shudder at the thought. Just because you can doesn’t mean you should ,its what nightmares are made of. |

Re: Toyota chassis
If you want a pinto powered car, just look for a "SHAY" model A not that they didn't have problems either. I had a SHAY T-Bird, an ok car but I couldn't move the seat back far enough to drive it.

Re: Toyota chassis
In the 70's it was popular to put in a Pinto motor, a guy near me has a '30 Coupe with that set up. Looks stock until you pop the hood. He runs all over in that car drives it everywhere.
Another guy that has since died ran a 60 HP flathead in his '29 Ford Roadster. I have to admit that was kinda neat, and boy that car would really scoot! Fit pretty well in the Model A. Patrick made a viable point. Toy-oughtas are way over rated. My good friend who retired from a Body Shop he owned for almost 50 years told me a while back that Toyota and Honda are two of the cheapest cars on the road, that they sell by name. Mostly built out of plastic and bent sheetmetal. He said in the early 90's they weren't bad cars but they have cheapened them up, big time. He also told me that he tells people that if they want to buy an Asian car buy the Hyundai, they are well built and have a lot of forgings where Toyota and Honda dropped forgings to save $$. Consumer Reports can and often is on the take. Money talks. Toyota has issues and problems just like everybody else. The perfect car has and never will be made. |
