Wood cheaper and easier to produce. and steel needed for other things. I like the front bracket - looks like a bent piece of angle iron.

do i wanna know how the frame got cracked/repaired?

Always thought it would be fun to recreate a GAZ-AA

Still works today. Did bot the running boards and the bed using redwood. I chose redwood for the looks and not the durability. Use lots of Harbor Freight moving blankets when hauling stuff for my projects. Chap

Of course! Same place the front brake system, splash aprons, hood shelves, probably radiator splash apron went as well.

Question: if you were to recreate a GAZ-AA is it legal in the US to drive it on the road with only rear brakes?
