Default Towing your A

Hi All,

Looking for pointers on towing your A.
What trailer size do you use?
Where are your strap points?

Thanks

Tim

Hi Tim,

I towed my car with the body cocked to one side to a VIN inspection. I used a car hauler from U-haul for like $35 for half a day. They gave me (4) straps that went over the tires keeping the car from moving forward's or backwards. For added safety, I used 4 tie-down's, one on each corner of the frame keeping it from moving sideway's. The Tie-down's were completely unnecessary but were added to keep the law from wasting my time to have a look and asking a bunch of pointless questions.

Regards
Bill

I went all out and have never regretted it. I had Cargo Mate build one for my A's. It is a 16 foot enclosed, Vee nose. I had it made 6 inches taller than standard to fit a sedan. I had Etrack built into the floor on 4 foot centers.
And I used no rivet exterior and matched the Cole of my tow vehicle. It is perfect.
The only thing I would change is put the Etrack a couple inces closer together. It is just inside the A wheels and if not perfect the tire is sitting on the Etrack trim. No big deal, just bugs me.
Easily pulled with a half Ton pickup.

Tim,
Ours is a touring car so I have no problem with an open trailer. We use our sons BobCat trailer, a little over kill for the A but it is free.
I put D ring plates on the deck and I use "tire basket" ratchet straps. Car did not budge on the 570 mile trip to Reno/Sparks last year.

I use a tow dolly & also use the over-the-tire straps without issue.

But when I use a trailer we use 2 straps on the front axle & 2 on the back.
